Hi, it seems you copied the content of your edit to Transport in Oman from skyscrapercity.com. If the copied post was not yours, this would appear to be a copyright violation. I noted this on Talk:Transport in Oman -- please reply there. Cheers, Rvollmert (talk) 13:38, 11 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Not a violation of copyright, because author marki is not different from User:Advanstra, but thanks for your concern and keen observation. A drafted new version of the Manual of Style for Thailand-related articles has been started here. Still at issue are specific naming conventions for Thai royals and nobles and settlements. As a member of WikiProject Thailand, you are welcome to contribute to the discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Thailand#Updating the Manual of Style (part 2). Nomination of Qantas Flight 32 for deletion

edit

A discussion has begun about whether the article Qantas Flight 32, which you created or to which you contributed, should be deleted. While contributions are welcome, an article may be deleted if it is inconsistent with Wikipedia policies and guidelines for inclusion, explained in the deletion policy.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Qantas Flight 32 until a consensus is reached, and you are welcome to contribute to the discussion.

You may edit the article during the discussion, including to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Bidgee (talk) 05:37, 4 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Please see Talk:Airbus A380#Incident - 4 Nov 2010 where your views are invited. Mjroots (talk) 05:40, 4 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Qantas Flight 32 - November 2010

edit

Advanstra, I'm not going to escalate the warning level for now. Please concentrate on the issue at stake, not who holds the view. I opened the discussion on the talk page of the A380 article because the aircraft is "high-profile" and it is probably better not to be WP:BOLD here. The discussion is aimed at garnering consensus. By all means argue for a stand-alone article there, but be prepared to accept that general consensus is that a stand-alone article is not justified. If consensus at the AfD is that the incident justifies an article, then I'll help bash it into shape. This is something that you could do yourself, though that would not guarantee the survival of the article. Mjroots (talk) 06:15, 4 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

If you want a bit of space to work on an article, place {{inuse}} at the top of the article and save. Then edit the article, but don't forget to remove the template when you've finished. Mjroots (talk) 06:47, 4 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

RE the warning you issued to me. I suggest you get your facts straight before you start accusing editors of acting in bad faith. The AfD nomination was placed by Bidgee at 05:37, a full twelve minutes after you created the article at 05:25. It was not placed by me a minute after you created the article. Bidgee created the AfD discussion at 05:37, but forgot to add the category template, which I added at 05:41]. I then discovered that the AfD notice had a redlink, which I fixed at 05:57.
Furthermore, I have not edited the Qantas article since 9 April 2010], so your accusation of edit warring on the article is also groundless, and could be seen as a PA by you on myself. Mjroots (talk) 11:11, 4 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
Sorry for that, i've double checked and agree those accusations i made relate to another user. I was confused as they just occured at the same time.--Advanstra (talk) 16:02, 4 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Removed personal attacks and offensive comments from other users. Those users are warned that their comments have been archived for future reference and they may themselves be blocked from editing in the future.

AfDs

edit

The nomination of an article at AfD in good faith is not a personal attack on the creator of the article, and should not be seen as such. It's early days yet, and it may well be that the article is kept at the end of the discussion. I'm open to changing my !vote, but at the moment I consider that the incident doesn't quite reach the threshold for inclusion. If, for example, the grounding extended to all RB-900 engined A380s, then I would say that the threshold had been met. Your best bet is to leave the discussion to run its course, and work on improving the article. It would do no harm to add the incident to {{Aviation accidents and incidents in 2010}}, and add that template to the article. Further sources that you might consider using are Flight International and Aviation Herald. Finally, thank you for striking the warnings you issued to me. Mjroots (talk) 11:52, 4 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the advise on the AfD, I'll leave the discussion to take its course. Others have already added the template and made notable contributions, but i'm tired of editing for now, particularly if some others are that keen to have it deleted and the edit warring on the Qantas article. --Advanstra (talk) 15:34, 4 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

There is indeed a pedestrian walkway and cycleway on the eastern side of the bridge and a fishing platform. It is possible to walk across the bay, this walkway was built to replace the walkway on the old Hornibrook Hwy bridge.--Advanstra (talk) 15:46, 25 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

I have noticed that you have edited a number of Australian road articles, and are listed as a member of WikiProject Highway's Oceania Task Force. I have recently started up a new project for Australian roads, with the goal of improving Wikipedia's coverage of Australian roads – currently the vast majority of articles are stub or start class. The project pages are located at Wikipedia:WikiProject Australian Roads, if you want to take a moment to look around, and join up if you're interested. Hydronymy

edit

I am interested in hydronymy as it looks the language of prehistoric Europe is reflected therein. I left a message on the wikiproject rivers talkpage, just looking for editors with similar interests to exchange information. I have discovered the so called old european hydronymy is not limited to Europe but has many correspondences in Iran, India and furhter away so I think this disproves the current scholarly etymological interpretations. Presently I am trying to research Bengal and Burma.Aldrasto11 (talk) 10:28, 3 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

No public speaking is required, just one-on-one assistance with new editors. Your name was mentioned as a possibility as it is believed you live in that region. Any suggestions on how to improve the article?Guru-45 (talk) 18:50, 18 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

I took a look at the article. The article focuses on the spiritual significance of the river. It is a bit hard to understand the geography of the river. Here is a list of some improvements --Advanstra (talk) 14:16, 19 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
  • 1. Separate the geographical information with the spiritual by using headings.
  • 2. A shorter introduction
  • 3. Add an Infobox River template
  • 4. Add a map of the river
  • 5. Some images of the river
  • 6. Seems the river has changed its course, so perhaps a map with the old courses and one with the new courses, and making the paragraphs shorter
  • 7 Categorize the river in a geographical sence

It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. Invitation to chat about interactive maps

edit

Hello, I’m Chris, a community liaison in the Discovery department at the Wikimedia Foundation. One of the projects we’re working on is to bring interactive maps to Wikipedia. If you are interested, I’d like to have an informal conversation with you about your work with WikiProject Maps, and the conventions you all have created. I'd like to learn more about your work and how that might influence the design of interactive maps.

Please let me know of some good times to chat via email and I can setup a meeting for us. I can be reached at ckoerner wikimedia.org.

If you’re not interested, that’s fine. I would appreciate any direction to other editors that have been involved and might be interested.

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

edit

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 01:01, 20 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

New Challenge for Oceania and Australia

edit

Hi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Oceania/The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia/The 5000 Challenge are up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. The Australia challenge would feed into the wider region one and potentially New Zealand could have a smaller challenge too. The main goal is content improvement, tackling stale old stubs and important content and improving sourcing/making more consistent but new articles are also welcome if sourced. I understand that this is a big goal for regular editors, especially being summertime where you are, but if you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Oceania and Australia like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1700 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for the region but fuelled by a series of contests to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. The Africa contest scaled worldwide would naturally provide great benefits to Oceania countries, particularly Australia and attract new editors. I would like some support from existing editors here to get the Challenges off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile and potentially bring about hundreds of improvements in a few weeks through a contest!
