I have restored the sandbox here: User:Adpb/sandbox. What is your relationship to the subject with that page? Best, SpencerT•C 12:55, 1 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi Spencer, thanks for restoring the Sandbox. The subject is a well known person in Sri Lanka and the relationship to me is he is my elder brother. In writing the biography I maintain full independence and maintain impartiality, this will be reflected by the biography referencing from reputed sources. I thank you again for your time and consideration this posting. Thanks! Adpb (talk) 10:39, 4 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

In addition, I uploaded a photo to the biography and have permission for it's upload and assigning licensing. I noticed that this photo had been deleted. I will re-upload the file for review given this information, however, if additional information is required please let me know. Thanks again for your time and consideration. Very Best! File copyright problem with File:Dr ADP Baddevithana 2020 - Wikipedia.jpg edit

Thank you for uploading File:Dr ADP Baddevithana 2020 - Wikipedia.jpg. However, it is currently missing information on its copyright and licensing status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can verify that it has an acceptable license status and a verifiable source. Please add this information by editing the image description page. You may refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Whpq (talk) 17:17, 1 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi Whpq, I did leave this message on your page and unsure if I followed the correct process to ask you the following -

I uploaded a photo for use on a biography page and have the licence for the photo’s use in Wikipedia from the copywrite holder. I noticed that the image has been tagged for deletion. Since I do have the licence to upload and use this photo please advise the steps I need to take to prevent deletion - should I re-upload the photo stating more succinctly the granted licence and if so should I use the “commons.wikimedia.org” process as I did the first time. Many Thanks

You will need to have the copyright holder provide permission. See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. Note that the copyright holder is usually the photographer and not the subject of the photo. -- Whpq (talk) 22:59, 1 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for getting back to me on this. I just received permission in writing from the copyright holder and have forwarded the email and attached permission letter together with the link to the image as well as reference to this talk to the email address - permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. I would be very grateful if you would let me know the next steps in the process. Many Thanks!
You should add {{subst:OP}} to the file description to indicate that a permission has been sent and is waiting on OTRS to process the permission letter. -- Whpq (talk) 11:08, 2 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
I understand that permission was provided yesterday to Ticket#: 2020050210002018. Would it be possible to know when the delete order on the image will be lifted? Many Thanks!Adpb

May 2020 edit

  Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment, or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button   located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Thank you. Whpq (talk) 11:08, 2 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Managing a conflict of interest edit

  Hello, Adpb. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. As the subject is your brother, please see the above message about important ways to manage your conflict on interest. SpencerT•C 03:27, 4 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Of note, instead of directly editing the page, suggest changes on the article talk page using {{request edit}}. Additionally, I am going to move the article to Draft namespace where the article can be given further review. It is located at Draft:Anil Baddevithana. I have taken care of the next step for you, to submit the article for review. Additional tip: please check out Wikipedia:Notability (people) for more information on drafting a biography on someone, especially the Basic criteria on that page. Best, SpencerT•C 03:35, 4 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
Hi Spencer, thank you for the update regarding moving the article for further reviews. I was of the understanding that when the biography was presentable from the Sandbox version, the additional reviews would be made once the item was moved to Wikipedia, thus the reason for the move; apologies for moving ahead of this.
Regarding potential conflicts of interest, at the top of the affected talk page I have disclosed “This user has declared a connection.” Please let me know if I should add any further information or if I should remove this.
I have followed the Wikipedia criteria and as mentioned before, I have been very careful to avoid any undue influence in the reporting of this topic and reported only facts, and included newspaper and other referencing that show the notability of the subject.
If not too much trouble, I would be very grateful if you would let me know the next steps in the process. Regarding the timeframe, from where we are now, how many days does the review process take until a final decision is made for the article to be included in Wikipedia? Thanks for your time and consideration. Thanks! Adpb (talk) 11:46, 4 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
Hi Adpb, no problem. The talk page notice is appropriate and meets this requirement. As for next steps in the progress, you can continue editing and improving the page while it is in draftspace. For example, I would caution you that the "Dr ADP Baddevithana, Campaign Introduction" source from Facebook is likely not reliable per sourcing guidelines, and another published source like a third-party newspaper would be more recommended. I will be honest, I'm not sure the exact timeframe for article reviews in the Draftspace, but it could take several days at the very least. SpencerT•C 14:35, 4 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
Noted regarding the source from Facebook, further evidence added to support this reference. Thanks!Adpb (talk) 08:52, 7 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
