Welcome to NMAC 5108!
editWelcome—you're off to a great start. I, too, am from Florida: Sarasota. What is your favorite banned book? I'm sure I have dozens, but Lolita, Ulysses, and The Satanic Verses come to mind. —Grlucas (talk) 16:21, 11 January 2020 (UTC)
Great! I tell my children that I grew up in the magical land of Florida. Now they tell everyone their mom is from the magical land of Florida. My favorite banned books would have to be Quo Vadis, Uncle Tom's Cabin, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, The Grapes of Wrath...there really are so many! I'm a huge fan of Mark Twain, I even named my son Samuel after him. I like John Steinbeck and Paulo Coelho also. The other night I told my kids a short version of John Steinbeck's, The Pearl (novel), and they said it was the worst bedtime story ever. One day they'll appreciate it! You mentioned liking the outdoors? Do you hike any?Benjamin Fincher (talk) 01:57, 13 January 2020 (UTC)
We just say we're going outside. I had to check the the wikipedia definition for hiking, I thought it meant specifically climbing mountains. Turns out I've been hiking for years and I never knew it. So yes, I do hike. I love learning about wildlife, tracking, and survival skills. I took up hunting three years ago, and I'm hooked. I usually shoot more photos than deer though! FOG References
editPlease fix the references you changed that did not need to be. Consult Help:Shortened footnotes for assistance. You changed many that had authors associated with them. Works with authors are generally stronger sources than those without or by staff writers. Let me know if you have questions. Also, please mark minor edits as minor (you might try to make several changes before saving—not every little change should be saved, especially if you're making many). Thanks. —Grlucas (talk) 12:53, 30 January 2020 (UTC)
I'm not sure I understand. I only added the correct citations to the material I added in the Background section. I saw the note which stated "citation needed" so I went back to my article to include each original source. Someone else attached at least one citation incorrectly to my info, so I corrected it last night. I have the original text with original sources for the work I entered myself to prove my citation for my work is correct. The citations I added did not include an author, they were all newspaper articles from the New York Times. I honestly don't understand. I will make sure to note minor edits. I've read this over several times trying to figure this out. I had a book source with an author, which had quotations from The New York Times so I thought that I should list the primary and the secondary sources. Are you saying that I should just include the secondary source (Castleman, Craig) and not the individual quotations? I read that it is ok to have larger blocks without multiple citation footnotes, but when someone put "citation needed" remarks I thought I needed to add the original source (The New York Times). Let me know if this is what I did wrong, and I'll fix it. Acmunoz14 (talk) 00:41, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- @Acmunoz14: Sorry I did not see until now, since you did not reply to me. It seems you added several articles from the NYT that are written by staff writers. This is fine, but articles without authors will not work with our shortened footnotes, so we have to source them another way. You changed some of the citations from sources with authors to the sources you added without authors. Again, fine, but it just messes with our citation scheme. Maybe we just have to cite the primary articles the standard way in the text. What do you think? (And sorry for the confusion.) —Grlucas (talk) 16:37, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- @Grlucas: Yes, this makes sense to me! I have changed the citations back as you requested. Thank you! If I need to fix anything else just let me know! Acmunoz14 (talk) 22:14, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
Little Men DYK
editHi! I closed the nomination that you opened for Little Men - in order to qualify the article would need to have been expanded to five times its original length or passed a Good Article nomination, which isn't the case. I've closed it - it was expanded to twice its length, which is still a great feat in and of itself, but DYK criteria is really picky.
On a side note, I also noted that you're marking some non-minor edits as minor. Minor edits are seen as non-controversial edits like fixing a citation (ie, keeping the same cite but fixing the link) or a grammatical error - any time you're adding content it wouldn't be seen as a minor edit. Just wanted to give you the head's up on that! Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 14:17, 18 February 2020 (UTC)
