Here's the mid-drive newsletter. Participation: We have had 58 people sign up for this drive so far, which compares favorably with our last drive, and 27 have copy-edited at least one article. Progress report: Our target of completing the 2010 articles has almost been reached, with only 56 remaining of the 194 we had at the start of the drive. The last ones are always the most difficult, so thank you if you are able to help copy-edit any of the remaining articles. We have reduced the total backlog by 163 articles so far. How was Brazil?

I've never been there, but I've heard from people who have that it is a really wonderful place. I was wondering if you'd be available/interested to help with copyediting on Ahalya? I've been helping the article's writer with it a bit lately, and I think we've almost got the prose to featured standards. It's an article about a Hindu goddess, I found it pretty interesting. It has been through a couple peer reviews and a failed FAC, so I'd really like to see it succeed.

Thanks for the suggestions! I have to admit, I've never enjoyed formatting references (even in grad school), but copyediting FACs makes me appreciate the level of nuance involved. I even managed to stump two veteran Wikipedians yesterday by suggesting that a newbie use an endnote in her first article, which is something neither of them had ever actually done. (We all had to spend a fair amount of time digging through the MoS to figure it out.) I'd never have known about endnotes if it weren't for c/eing all of Mark's nutty Protestant FACs :) Accedie^{talk to me} 16:16, 18 March 2012 (UTC)

Some people eschew referencing templates, which is a shame, because they really make things work properly and aid verification. With {{sfn}} you can stop thinking about junk like how they collate; it's automatic. For endnotes (explanatory notes) {{efn}} rulz (use {{refn}} for non-lower-alpha). You know who wrote these templates? Charlie Gillingham. For an interesting speciaised use of notes, see this edit. It's 3 notes that are local to the infobox (being lower-roman is what segregates them).

I worked on Ranavalona III more but still have about a dozen more refs to rework into {sfn} form. It will look like Rainilaiarivony when I finish.

Mark's the one who asked me to work on Ahalya‎‎ and I got him to use {efn} on Hensley. Check out Crisco 1492's articles; Sitti Nurbaya, for example. p.s. I spiffed-up my user page; be among the first to scroll through it (note scrollbar on right;). Alarbus (talk) 05:21, 19 March 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for your edits. I am reverting some of reorganization edits in "Assessment and remembrance". The second para of the section "Another view does not regard the panchakanya ... " is negative and does not advocate worship. I am just removing the headings. In "Modern renditions", most dances older than 21st century and films and TV serial also in 20th century. I am removing the headings and reorganizing a bit. I removed 1 heading from "Curse" as most stone motif tales talk about a "divine" Rama. If you want to anything else that improves the article further, please go ahead. Yeah, looks like the relevant policy is here. Seems like a rather arbitrary cut-off to me – especially given that it's smack dab in the middle of the Baby Boom, which is when a lot of very prominent and notable historic figures were born... If I were you, I'd go look at the history of the WikiProject Women's History page to figure out when that policy was created and if it there was any discussion about it. This is the most successful drive we have had for quite a while. Here is your end-of-drive wrap-up newsletter. Participation Of the 70 people who signed up for this drive, 40 copy-edited at least one article. Thanks to all who participated! Special acknowledgement goes out to Lfstevens, who did over 200 articles, most of them in the last third of the drive, and topped all three leaderboard categories. You're a superstar! Stfg and others have been pre-checking the articles for quality and conformance to Wikipedia guidelines; some have been nominated for deletion or had some preliminary clean-up done to help make the copy-edit process more fun and appealing. Thanks to all who helped get those nasty last few articles out of the target months. Progress report During this drive we were successful in eliminating our target months—October, November, and December 2010—from the queue, and have now eliminated all the 2010 articles from our list. Copyedit request

Hi again, hope things are going well. I just finished a marathon week getting Elias Abraham Rosenberg up to FA, the FAC went fast and furious. I was wondering if you could help me with some copyediting on William T. Anderson? You probably haven't heard of him, he's more or less Kansas' answer to Che Guevara. It's kinda a long article by my standards tough to get it all straightened out. I think I took care of most of the real gaffs though. The templates are still pretty shoddy, Alarbus would be disappointed (I'll convert them all eventually though). It's not terribly funny though, somewhat macabre even. Now William S. Your help is well timed, since the GA review just started. Anderson was a very angry person, perhaps the angriest (but yes, there are a lot of other words that can be used). The core issue is that the arbitrary committee can't drop the stick. They should take one of their former member's advice and start dismantling themselves. I've made something like 100,000 edits to WMF projects, mostly en:wp but about 15,000 elsewhere. I lose track, too.

The page itself said that several thousand pages was 0.1% (one tenth of a percent) of 3.3 million pages, not 1%, as you said in your edit summary. "Less than 0.1%" might not actually be accurate. --Yair rand (talk) 22:32, 22 May 2012 (UTC)

Guild of Copy Editors May 2012 backlog elimination drive wrap-up Participation: Out of 54 people who signed up this drive, 32 copy-edited at least one article. Last drive's superstar, Lfstevens, again stood out, topping the leader board in all three categories and copy-editing over 700 articles. Thanks to all who participated! Progress report: We were once again successful in our primary goal—removing the oldest three months from the backlog—while removing 1166 articles from the queue, the second-most in our history.
