Welcome edit

Hello, AbusedCadet, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I notice that one of the first articles you created appears to be an article about yourself. This is a common mistake made by new Wikipedians—as this is an encyclopedia, we wouldn't expect to have an article about every contributor. Your user page, however, is a great place to write about yourself, making sure to stay within user page guidelines. Just click your user name at the top of the screen when you are logged in, and edit it normally.

The page you created about yourself may well be deleted from the encyclopedia. If it is deleted and you wish to retrieve its contents, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! In addition your user page made claims about a living person but without being sourced. CBWeather, Talk, Seal meat for supper? 09:26, 21 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Response: The article is indeed about myself however, it does not warrant a user page as it does indeed meet the notability criteria for Wikipedia. I have inadvertently asked for it to be reviewed however, when it should have been placed in as a draft as it is a work in progress that I need to update with references and information regarding the Defence Abuse Response Task-force and my interactions with them as well as the FADT Senate committee of Australia and the Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Senator Jacquie Lambie.

I would appreciate your assistance in moving this article to the drafts section if you could.AbusedCadet (talk) 13:36, 22 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

User page edit

I deleted it because there is no way to tell if you are the person you mentioned there. More importantly it contained negative information about a living person that had no sources and because of Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons#Remove contentious material that is unsourced or poorly sourced it had to be removed. Cheers. CBWeather, Talk, Seal meat for supper? 10:03, 21 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

That's quite easy. Just add something to the "about" page on your www.abusedcadet.com that you edit Wikipedia under this name. You will need sources other than yourself though to prove Wikipedia:Notability for an actual article. Cheers. CBWeather, Talk, Seal meat for supper? 10:16, 21 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
As you noticed I have restored your user page. Cheers. CBWeather, Talk, Seal meat for supper? 07:11, 22 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Your recent edits edit

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment; or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button (  or  ) located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 06:30, 22 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

A tag has been placed on User:AbusedCadet, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which articles can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may be soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Your username edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "AbusedCadet", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Trammel Museum of Art". However, you are invited to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you personally, such as "Mark at WidgetsUSA", "Jack Smith at the XY Foundation", and "WidgetFan87".

Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people, and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, or website, regardless of your username. Moreover, I recommend that you read our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please create a new account or request a username change that complies with our username policy. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. I consider your account name to be a borderline case, but for certain together with your WP:SPA, WP:COI, WP:ADVOCACY editing (so far) this message will give you the links so you can see how it works around here. About your userpage, again it may be a borderline case, if you could just adjust it to remove any WP:BLP issues - e.g. claims of abuse. Widefox; talk 08:26, 24 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of User:AbusedCadet edit

A tag has been placed on User:AbusedCadet requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section U5 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to consist of writings, information, discussions, and/or activities not closely related to Wikipedia's goals. Please note that Wikipedia is not a free Web hosting service. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time.

If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy. It also appears that your account is intended to be used for the purpose of telling the world about an organization, person or cause that you consider worthwhile. Unfortunately, many good causes are not sufficiently notable for their own Wikipedia article, and all users are discouraged from editing in any area where they have an inherent conflict of interest. You may wish to consider one of these alternative outlets.

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice. Thank you. Request reason:

WP:NOTLAW WP:GF WP:NOOB I have been blocked for this exact reason previously and made the noob decision of deleting the outcome. Here was my appeal outcome: "Hello abusedcadet! I have unblocked your account. However, please note that writing articles about yourself, your acquaintance, or your organization is considered a conflict of interest and thus strongly discouraged (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest). Your edits will be subject to greater scrutiny, which may result in deletion of your articles and/or reblocking of your account should your editing be deemed inappropriate. King of Hearts English Wikipedia Administrator" As you can see, I have been prevented from making any contribution as admins keep doing this! How about you cut me some slack, unblock me so that when I actually have time I can start making contributions rather than continually arguing these accusations! Accept reason:

See below. Floquenbeam (talk) 17:11, 11 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Okay. @King of Hearts:, would you say that this is an accurate representation of UTRS #12141? Also, you seem to have recreated your user page, and that may have been a factor in the reblock. Origamite 14:27, 11 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Did I? Once again, WP:noob. I understand scripts and am extremely computer literate but am not overly familiar with the Wikipedia platform... yet. I'm just trying to learn the ropes and make a valid contribution. The URL: abusedcadet.com came well and truly after the creation of this username as I was subjected to online attacks so I was forced to take the domain name out to stop a spoofing attack[1]. The intention has nothing to do with advertising. It is a persona I use; nothing more, nothing less. WP:Goodfaith.

As mentioned below, I would like to continue to use this name as it makes it easier for myself but, I will abide by whatever the forum decides. If the forum decides that it is unacceptable than I won't. I truly just want to get on with the job at hand and help build Wikipedia.

Reboot edit

When you have a sprawling website, with numerous independent admins, and some conversations happening by email, and others getting removed, it's not surprising that it gets a little dysfunctional sometimes. Sorry you've been through this. I'll try to cut through the red tape.

If I understand correctly, in October 2014 there were some issues with your user page. You were briefly blocked, then unblocked, based on various interpretations of advocacy and violating username policy, and the page was deleted a few times. I note you last created it in October, and it was noticed and re-deleted this January. Last month you were reblocked because your username was interpreted as violating policy because of the existence of abusedcadet.com.

I personally believe the username violates the username policy, but it's a fuzzy border. Endlessly cycling thru blocks/unblocks is a waste of time. I propose we handle this one of 3 ways:

  • Easiest way: Just abandon this account, and choose a new account name. Since you apparently use this name on other fora, I'd unblock this account and blank the talk page so you don't show up as a blocked user on Google. But you wouldn't use the account to edit anymore.
  • Still relatively easy: I'll unblock this account, but the next time you log in here, you go to Wikipedia:Changing username/Simple and request a change of username. It's a bit more trouble, but you can keep the editing history of this account associated with the new account this way. If you ask me, it wouldn't be worth it, but it's your call.
  • Harder way but OK to do this if you want to: I'll unblock this account, and bring up the name at Wikipedia:Requests for comment/User names to get a "final" determination on the acceptability of the username. You'll agree to abide by the result; if it's decided it's OK, we can leave a note on your page so future admins don't block you. If it's decided it's not OK, you'll agree to request a new username.

Since this account is unblocked in all three of these options, I'll go ahead and unblock now, but please don't start editing anything with this account until you've indicated which choice you want to make. And don't recreate the user page, at least until you've got some feedback on it's content from someone.

OK? --Floquenbeam (talk) 17:10, 11 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Sounds good, Lets go with option 3 for clarity sake just to put the issue to rest once and for all. AbusedCadet (talk) 22:52, 11 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

OK, done. Feel free to comment here: Wikipedia:Requests for comment/User names#AbusedCadet. --Floquenbeam (talk) 00:17, 12 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
