Your post to AN edit

So if you're the IP editor as you say, I have a question: of all the ways you might have blown the whistle on a problem, why the route you chose? New editors often have difficulty navigating our site processes, but there's no excuse for mingling gratuitous bias against an entire set of people who are not responsible for the problem at hand, and who face too much real world prejudice already. What would you like to say to the LGBT editors of this site who encountered those posts? DurovaCharge! 17:42, 7 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Durova, they have my most sincere apologies. I just noticed on the AN page that one of the editors is LGBT. I realize this is small consolation given my intensely prejudice remarks, but I simply did that because my friends and I thought it was funny. Had I known that one of the editors was in fact LGBT, I would not have made those remarks, but clearly I should not have made them in the first place.

Not only that, he reverted your posts to Grockl's user talk repeatedly. You've created a hostile environment. If you're going to express regrets, please do so to him directly. DurovaCharge! 17:56, 7 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Additionally, I do believe this username is a violation as it's obvious the reason it was chosen. WP:UAA not withstanding, I'd ask the user to change this user name via Wikipedia:Changing username. - ALLSTRecho wuz here @ 18:25, 7 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Yes, a username change would be a very good iea. Allstarecho, I'll defer to whatever decision you think is best regarding whether to accept this user's regrets. DurovaCharge! 18:36, 7 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
I'm changing the username now.

Based on this by this user, it's really hard to assume good faith in regards to this user's regrets. Saying "hey, I'm trying but if you don't accept it on my terms, I'll just sockpuppet merrily through Wikiland" just doesn't give me much confidence. But in the interest of civility and moving on, I'm willing to accept such regrets with conditions:

  • The user changes username to something else not even remotely close to the other user.
  • The user agrees to probation, to end only at the time the user's Mentor (see below) checks off on the user in terms of the user being fully capable and ready to be a productive asset to Wikipedia instead of a disruptive one.
  • The user participates in mentorship via Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User (see above).

Thoughts? Opinions? - ALLSTRecho wuz here @ 18:52, 7 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Generous and reasonable, IMO. Thank you for handling this graciously, Allstarecho. DurovaCharge! 18:57, 7 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
I've got to step out a bit but I'll check back later to see if this user has accepted these terms. Thanks. - ALLSTRecho wuz here @ 19:03, 7 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Allstar, I've left an apology on your talk page. I see it as orthogonal to this whole issue, but I want you to see it.
And of course I'm willing to abide by those terms.
I've withdrawn the siteban proposal. Thank you for taking steps toward making amends, and best wishes. DurovaCharge! 19:19, 7 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Yes, thank you. Wait for the outcome of your username change request (it looks like there may be a problem with the name you've chosen so wait for an admin to comment on it). Once that's done, head on ove to Adopt-a-User and follow the instructions there for requesting a Mentor. Also thank you for the heart-felt apology on my talk page. Just remember that actions speak louder than words.. so dive into Wikipedia in a constructive and productive manner, whether it's creating new articles or doing behind the scenes stuff like reference/source checking, clean up of articles. We'e all human, and most of us understand human nature reactions. If you've got an issue with someone else, bring it to someone's attention.. me, Durova, the Administrator's Noticeboard. Let the system deal with the problems. Had you done this from the start, the other Grockl user would be the only one right now dealing with possibilities of being blocked. I'll check back on you from time to time. :] - ALLSTRecho wuz here @ 20:22, 7 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Sorry again, Allstar, and thanks for your help. I'm leaving one more comment on the noticeboard.

Actually, when your username change goes through would you consider re-signing your posts to the admin board? This username is so close to Grockl that it might be confusing people and discouraging them from commenting upon the ban proposal: they mistakenly suppose both problems are getting resolved. (By the way, you sign your name on Wikipedia by writing four tildes in succession). DurovaCharge! 22:07, 7 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Sounds good. As soon as the username request goes through, I'll update the signatures.

Your recent edits edit

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button   located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot (talk) 22:00, 7 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Mentorship edit

Hello, I have been asked to mentor you, and i have agreed. I'm quite busy this evening, but I am free tomorrow morning, so I'll draft up conditions then. Best, Steve Crossin Talk/Help us mediate! 07:49, 8 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
