Hi Absentt, welcome to Wikipedia. I see you recently moved the new article Torabhaig distillery to 'Distillery'.

Please see Wikipedia:Naming conventions (capitalization). On this basis, I think distillery should be a lower case? Coldupnorth (talk) 12:54, 3 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

My mistake! The name of the company is "Torabhaig Distillery" is it not? I suppose Wikipedia works on a different set of rules. Absentt (talk) 12:59, 3 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
It would make sense if it were, for example, "The Glenlivet distillery" as the company is called "The Glenlivet" but the company name in this particular case is in fact "Torabhaig Distillery Ltd" as seen via their contact page: https://www.torabhaig.com/contact/ Absentt (talk) 13:02, 3 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
If it's in the name of the company, that would make sense that it should be capitalised then. However, when you look at the distillery articles across Wikipedia, there seems to be a variety of lower case and upper case distillery names. I'd leave it as Distillery as your move makes sense on that basis. You could raise it at the talk page for naming conventions if you want a definitive answer. I'm not one for grammar! If it was just called "Torabhaig" it would make sense to be "Torabhaig distillery" but as the actual name of the company is "Torabhaig Distillery" I would have assumed it should be capitalised, as "distillery" isn't a descriptor in this case, but an actual part of the name. I think it is comparable to if I were to make a page for Brian Cox, and I called the article "Brian cox". Unsure on that one! Please change it if you disagree. c: Absentt (talk) 13:24, 3 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
This is indeed a variety of lowercase/uppercase in names, but in most cases I believe the distillery has been labeled incorrectly. Take "The Glasgow Distillery Co" for example, which is actually referenced as "The Glasgow Distillery" separately from their logo. On Wikipedia it is just labeled as "Glasgow distillery". Meaning no offence to whomever wrote it (I'm assuming you did) but calling it "Glasgow distillery" would make sense under the case that it isn't directly referencing "The Glasgow Distillery". There are cases in which distillery should be lowercase, such as in the case of "The Glenlivet" which then becomes "The Glenlivet distillery", but in other cases where the name of the company directly references the word "distillery" I think it should be capitalised as a part of the name. Makes sense. You could move some of those distilleries on that basis to amended names etc. To be honest the distillery articles I've made stemmed from clicking on whatever it was written as in the whisky template. However, if I make any others I'll give it more thought. Coldupnorth (talk) 14:41, 3 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
In the long run I don't think it matters drastically. If the information is all there, the capitalisation of the name probably doesn't matter toooo much. Absentt (talk) 23:50, 3 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
