G'day! edit

G'day there, Abbott75, and welcome to Wikipedia! Good authors are always welcome on the project, and I hope you like the place and decide to stick around!

Sometimes new editors find it useful to review our "five pillars", all you need to know about editing in "wiki markup", or this detailed tutorial. The stuff we all really need to know is best summed up here: write from a neutral point of view, play nice with others, and don't let the rules get you down. If you have any questions or need any help, my talkpage is always open for business, or you can see Wikipedia:Newcomers help page. Here's a tip to start you off: if you type four tildes (~~~~) at the end of any messages you leave on talkpages (like this one) Wikipedia will automatically insert your name and the current date and time after your message. Cool, eh?

By the way, I'm going to take a punt in the dark and say you're Australian. If so, excellent! Aussies make good Wikipedians (yes, oh yes, we do). You may be interested in Wikipedia:Australian Wikipedians' notice board, where Australian Wikipedians occasionally meet to try to help coordinate our efforts. Again, welcome to the project, and happy editing! fuddlemark (fuddle me!) 15:03, 27 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hello Abbott75,
I'm french, so excuse my bad english. I've looked your work on list of breeds of cattle. I'm trying to look for all european breeds. You can see my work in the article / other languages / français. Good luck for your work. If you need any informations about french breeds, ask for me. Try to use simple words, it's better if you want my understanding. I'm not logged in in english. If you want to speak me, make it on french wiki. Friendly, PANDA 81.15:43, 7 June 2007 (UTC)~

Hi Abbott,
I can give you some information about cattle "aure et St Girons". This catlle come from south of France, in ce middle part of Pyrénées. It cames from antics breeds neighbours of Bos taurus primigenius. It was two ancient populations: St Girons who was a dairy breed. The milk was used to elaborate french cheese "fourme de bethmale". The second breed, Aure valley was known by strongs oxen whitch were used in mountains to bring down trees. Since a few years, the two breeds made one.
The cow is a good mother. She gives one calf by year during more than 15 years. She's able to spend 5 months in mountain during summer. She's able to walk in mountain area looking for his food. The cow gives 3000 kg of milk. A park near Bordeaux, use this cattle to clean a humid area where no other cow can live whitout legs diseases. This breed has only 179 cows ans 19 bulls because breeders prefer cattles more efficient. (holstein, blonde d'Aquitaine, Gasconne...) A little group of breeders and politic direction of "Midi-Pyrénées" country believe it's important to save old breeds. So, they try to grow the number of cows. If the number of animals was so great, it would be a very good breed for mothers crossed with bulls from Blonde d'Aquitaine or limousine breed.
I've spend one hour to write this message, so it's too difficult for me to translate in English. Try to found a translater for my articles and I'll be glad to read and eventually to correct you. If you have phtographies about cattles, (english, australians breeds, cross breeds with zebu...) enregistrate them in "commons" and tell me. PANDA 81 15:10, 11 June 2007 (UTC)~

Eddy Brown typo correction edit

Hi, regarding your typo correction in the Eddy Brown article of goalscorer to goal scorer. That isn't a typo, that's standard British-English usage which you'll find in hundreds of football-related Wikipedia pages. Also, the second one you changed was in the middle of a citation reference. Thanks for checking the article - if those were my only typos then I did OK. Cheers, Struway2 | Talk 08:20, 23 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

G'day Abbott75. I see from the article history you have done a lot of edits to the Pigeon racing article. I was wondering if you are a pigeon fancier? I made a userbox for pigeon fanciers (on my userpage) if you're interested. I keep pigeons myself and still only new here but editing away and learning as I go. I recently helped get the Rock Pigeon article up to GA. I'm planning to do the same with other pigeon articles as I find the time. Cheers, Sting au Buzz Me... 23:20, 24 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Nice looking bird. I used to race pigeons many years ago. It was a lot of fun. Might do it again one day? I currently keep highfliers and fancy pigeons. One of mine is pictured at Australian Performing Tumbler. Getting an article to FA would be a hard task. There are not many get to that level. Getting one to GA was hard enough for my limited skills at editing. Great work with the pigeon racing article. I'll add to it as I find time. Sting au Buzz Me... 05:48, 25 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, I'll look in detail later, but obvious first thoughts are
  1. intro does not summarise article as per Wikipedia:Lead section
  2. much of the text lacks in-line citations
  3. needs a good copy edit, eg first sentence has the oddly capitalised "Racing pigeon" and the refs are mostly inadequately formatted, eg no retrieval dates for web refs
  4. First ref should follow citejournal rather than citeweb format, with full details, but no retrieval date
Jimfbleak (talk) 11:09, 11 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Better in terms of content, but need 3/4 paragraphs, each with a minimum of three sentences to conform with policy. Don't need to reference again if the item is referenced in the body of the article. Not sure about the last sentence, is this a record distance? If so, make it clear, if not, it looks very parochial Jimfbleak (talk) 12:06, 11 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
In future, would it be better to put these comments on the article talk page? Jimfbleak (talk) 12:06, 11 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Hybridmaster edit

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Hybridmaster, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

notability

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached.--Charles (talk) 11:13, 26 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Article Alexander Thomson nominated for deletion edit

If you're familiar with the range of Wikipedia articles about Jehovah's Witnesses, you've likely come across the name Alexander Thomson a few times. He wasn't a Witness, but he (very) occasionally had favorable things to write about Watch Tower publications. By no means was he a shill.

Someone (see diff) has moved to delete the article about Thomson, claiming that he is not notable (is not worthy of even a brief encyclopedic article). That seems odd to me, because Thomson is listed among only twelve persons having "played a significant role in the work of the Concordant Publishing Concern", publishers of the Concordant Literal Version of the Bible. He edited and wrote much Bible commentary under his own bylines, some of which is still in print. He contributed and edited articles in Unsearchable Riches[1] (now in its 100th year). Primarily because of having had his scholarship so substantially influence a notable Bible, Thomson is himself notable.

I have no sentimental attachment to Thomson, but I believe he is notable enough to keep from deletion. Feel free to add references to improve the article, or chime at the article's Talk regarding whether or not you'd prefer Wikipedia delete its article about this Alexander Thomson.--AuthorityTam (talk) 17:35, 10 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Knowsley Road photographs edit

The first play-off game at Knowsley Road could be the last game to be played there. It's looking likely that not that many more games will be played at Knowsley Road, Belle Vue, the Willows or Wheldon Road and we have very few free-to-use images of them (although the ones we have, particularly of Wheldon Road are very good). I wouldn't like to see our material on these historic grounds go the same way as the very limited material we have for the historic Boulevard Ground, Thrum Hall or the Parkside Ground. If you will be at the next play-off game at Knowsely Road or if you are able to get any pictures of these grounds I would be very gratefull if you could upload them to commons. I can sort out the categories and such if you don't have any time. Alternatively if you know of anyone who could it would be much appreciated. I am unlikely to go to any away games next season because of my current circumstances so will not be able to contribute towards this, although I shall endevour to get some great images at home games (I've a load of the CC final to upload but there sat it a very long backlog).

Hope you like your Userpage title! edit

Like I said, I hope you like the title of your userpage. The only thing is that I couldn't get the color of the letters itself right (feel free to check the different versions in the history pane, to see if there's one you like more); one was too bright, and this one looks to dark. If there was a color code in between the two versions, it'd probably be better. I wanted the color to match the color in the text of your page, but like I said for some reason it looks darker. If I have time I'll look around for color codes and see if I can modify it. But anyway hope you like it. I have something similar on my userpage as well. Hope to hear from you! Proposed deletion of Hybridmaster edit

The article Hybridmaster has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable hybrid, not listed in DAD-IS], not mentioned in major reference works such as Valerie Porter, Lawrence Alderson, Stephen J.G. Hall, D. Phillip Sponenberg (2016). Mason's World Encyclopedia of Livestock Breeds and Breeding (sixth edition). Wallingford: CABI. ISBN 9781780647944.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
