Abaana and Scott Baxter

edit

Thanks Rob aka ABaana for your contribution. Maybe I was hasty aboutsaying Abaana was small - sorry. In terms of Scott Baxter, maybe itwould be better to start with some info on him in the main Abaanaarticle. If he becomes particularly notable then of course he shouldhave his own page, or if you find there is sufficient information inthe article (e.g. more than just his work setting up Abaana). If youare happy to do this then, add the information to Abaana thenredirect the Scott Baxter using REDIRECT((Abaana)) (IMPORTANT use square brackets instead of normal ones). This will also mean you can focus work on bringing theAbaana article up to scratch. If none of this makes sense leave amessage here or on my talk page and I will help out User talk:Lethaniol - and if you ever need any help with anything feelfree to ask. Cheers Lethaniol 23:00, 13 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Right the Scott Baxter article has been deleted, and I strongly recommend you don't remake it because it is likely that the Abaana article will be up for deletion discussion anyhow (it has already been deleted but I managed to get it put back - but the person that deleted thinks that the charity is non-notable see WP:BIO and WP:ORG and wants proof that it is not). What you need to do is help expand the article, not so much as in content but of the importance of the charity. E.g. how much money did it donate last year, how wide is it operations (countries, and projects), has it got any news coverage that can be referenced etc. Please see my talk page User talk:Lethaniol and the deleter User talk:Nishkid64 for the arguments, sorry this is the nastier side of Wikipedia and is not that usual - generally things are more friendly. Please don't let it put you off Lethaniol 01:29, 14 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

[Copyright]

I am a little confused about the copyright. We own the abaana website and we submitted the text for all Africa? we own the copyright. How can we have broken it?

I am not an expert but I believe it revolves around the fact that we can not prove that you own the website (see WP:COPYVIO) - so we ask that other websites are not copied from. This obviously does not apply to other Wikipedia like websites/wikis whereby the information if freely distributed using GNU General Public License. Any further questions ask on my talk page, here or at the talk page of WP:COPYVIO. Cheers Lethaniol 23:23, 16 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
does it not say that you can use it with permission "If you use part of a copyrighted work under "fair use", or if you obtain special permission to use a copyrighted work from the copyright holder" I gave Rob permission.
The arguing has finished - do not worry the article Abaana will not be deleted now - you can spend your time bringing it up to a decent level. On the copyright issue see my answer above. I hope you two don't give up wikipedia - it is great once you get into it. Any problems then leave a message here Lethaniol 23:27, 16 November 2006 (UTC) Or and dont forget to sign you r comments with four ~Reply
Basically do not worry. You can use any information (facts, figures etc...) but you will need to rewrite it (not just moving the words about or rephrasing). You can put quotes from the site on the page though (use : or blockquote) - though not to many please. Does that help?? Lethaniol 23:37, 16 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
Well good luck - if you are concerned still about copyright while editing, then write in the talk page what you have told me - so that people can appreciate where you are coming from. In terms of cat - it is already in the Charity category , but look though this page [1] for more categories. If you want to add a category I would not do this until more experienced but read/discuss it here [2] - you got 5 mins then I am off to bed - any more questions :):) Lethaniol 23:46, 16 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
Sorry I lied - I have added categories on the Abaana article - before I had only left a stub Lethaniol 23:59, 16 November 2006 (UTC) GoodnightReply

Well then I bid you goodnight Abaana 23:54, 16 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

We already settled the agreement. It is my job as admin to discuss as to why I deleted a certain page. I deleted Abaana because I thought it wasn't notable, but I dropped my case after Lethanoil and Anthony.bradbury told me of some arguments as to why the page should be kept. It's not wasting time; it's helping the community. Nishkid64 23:36, 16 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

you guys are fast. I guess it is taking a while to figure out and follow exactly what is going on as conversation can be carried on various pages, and why my text disappears when by breaking my own copyright.Abaana 23:44, 16 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
Speed comes with practise - compared to most I am a novice around here - but dont let it daunt you - we are normally a friendly bunch. Again feel free to ask anything. Night :):) Lethaniol 23:59, 16 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
