March 2011 edit

Hello, welcome to Wikipedia. Thanks for contributing the article. There are strict guidelines about use of images on Wikipedia. I was wondering if you took the picture presented on the biographical article or if you downloaded it from the University's web page? If you have not taken the picture, then you will need to obtain proper licensing from the person who took it for the picture to be included. If you have taken the picture, please visit Wikimedia Commons and update the image's page with a Creative Commons 3.0 license. Once again, welcome and I hope you will consider taking other opportunities to contribute to Wikipedia. Warfieldian (talk) 21:26, 8 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hello Ali, In regard to your question about the photo that you submitted, it appears that you are not the copyright holder. Wikimedia Commons cannot accept unlicensed photos or photos for which you do not hold the copyright. Your photo may be deleted unless you obtain the proper permissions. This is normally done by having the copyright holder send an e-mail to Wikipedia releasing the photo under a Creative Commons license. You can find information about the proper wording to use and the email address to send it to at WP:CONSENT. Once you have sent this e-mail, you can go to the image page and place this tag {OTRS pending} in the license area to let admins know that you have submitted the proper consent. I hope that you this information helpful. I know it can be confusing and seem like a lot of hoops to jump through, but all of these guidelines are in place to make sure Wikipedia is within the bounds of applicable copyright laws. Ali, it may take a while the photo to be deleted but it's hard to say how long. If it does get deleted, you could always upload a photo of him that you have taken yourself. If you have taken the photo, you can put the license on the picture yourself. Best regards, Warfieldian (talk) 23:36, 8 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You could also click on the signature button   located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 11:16, 9 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
