Hello Aafi,

Please join this discussion - there is increase in the abuse of Wikipedia and its processes by POV pushers, Paid Editors, and by holders of various user rights including Autopatrolled. Even our review systems themselves at AfC and NPR have been infiltrated. The good news is that detection is improving, but the downside is that it creates the need for a huge clean up - which of course adds to backlogs.

Copyright violations are also a serious issue. Most non-regular contributors do not understand why, and most of our Reviewers are not experts on copyright law - and can't be expected to be, but there is excellent, easy-to-follow advice on COPYVIO detection here.

At the time of the last newsletter (#25, December 2020) the backlog was only just over 2,000 articles. New Page Review is an official system. It's the only firewall against the inclusion of new, improper pages.

There are currently 706 New Page Reviewers plus a further 1,080 admins, but as much as nearly 90% of the patrolling is still being done by around only the 20 or so most regular patrollers.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process or its software.

Various awards are due to be allocated by the end of the year and barnstars are overdue. If you would like to manage this, please let us know. Indeed, if you are interested in coordinating NPR, it does not involve much time and the tasks are described here.

Using quotes in google search

Assalamalaykum,

I saw that in this comment you wrote the results of a google search. But it seems you did the google search without quotes. If we do the google search with quotes we see 4,110 results for "Abdul Hakeem Azhari" and 40,000 results for "Abdul Hakkim Azhari". Moving of Hazara Pakistan to Hazara Division

Hi i see you moved Hazara Pakistan article to Hazara Division on the request of "user:Khestwol". without any past or present check, i want to tell you actually Hazara Division was merged into this historical region article because of not having enough content, Now renaming this Hazara Pakistan historical region article into an administrative Hazara Division is not fair, i request you please read the article, Hazara Pakistan is a historical region wich has a history since Alexander era, and this region contains sperate Amb (princely state) from 1500 to until 1970 and this region was merged in to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, From 1987 to present-day this region has a separate Hazara Province Movement.

• William Muir's "Life of Mahomet" written in 1863. Muir was criticized by some Muslims as being biased.
• Safiur Rahman Mubarakpuri's "Ar-Raheeq Al-Makhtum". Mubarakpuri was on the faculty of Islamic University of Madinah but his work is written from an obviously Islamic perspective.

Vice regent, I hold the view that each such work is reliable for WP:RSOPINION. We may cite such opinions whenever necessary, whether they're in praise or commend the subject, or otherwise. Personally, I do not consider Mubarakpuri's work to be a reliable one - there have been discussions (in circles I'm known to) that it has copied a lot from Kandhlawi's Seeratul Mustafa. Nonetheless, every such work is fine to be cited per WP:RSOPINION and I won't object. Ziaur Rahman Azmi

Hello @TheAafi, I added the name in the article as taking the example of the article of Ibn Taymiyyah. Name is different but commonly known as different. I didn't change the title and this title should not be change also.

I got to know this name, Abū Aḥmad Muḥammad ʻAbdillāh Al-A’zami when I read the cover of Al-Jamiul Kamil but thought that it is name of another person.

So, I want to add the name again as other name in infobox or in the starting of article as it is in Ibn Taymiyyah. So, people know his official name and never confuse like me.

Dear friend Zsohl, Thanks for the nice words. I feel the vast majority of Islamic biographies need to be revamped. Azmi's name in libraries generally features as "Muhammad Ziya-ur-Rahman Azmi" (in Urdu and Arabic" but we use the most common name as both the title, in the infobox, and at the starting and mention any alternative name next to it. TheBirdsShedTears, I feel either of the disambiguators don't fit. The primary title at Hudhud should be made a disambiguation page. Hudhud bird should be placed at something like Hudhud (Islamic theology) or Hudhud (Islam) if this belongs to only Islam, and theology only if it is found all around the Abrahamic religions. Wikipedia has thousands of articles about people that nobody knows about here in the East and also have 2 Million followers at max. Beware of IPs

Over the years I've been on wikipedia, I've found that you should beware of IPs and WP:SPAs that try to pick fights. They are probably sockpuppets of more veteran accounts. I had a look at the ANI thread. While the IP seems to be wanting to right great wrongs, there looks to be a kernel of truth in what they're saying. I notice at User:TheAafi/COI, you say you've been paid to write Malojiraje Chhatrapati and Bapusaheb Pathare. While neither article looks egregiously bad, and seems to basically have well-sourced claims to meet WP:NPOLITICIAN (bearing in mind I'm not too familiar with Indian politics, particularly BJP politics), they both look like the sort of stub I'd knock up in an hour or two just for fun. I don't understand why you needed to be paid for these, or how it aligns with the claim also on the page "No paid connections. Never." Can you clarify what this all means? Ritchie333, As you are already aware that having a COI doesn't always mean that one has been paid to write an article. It has several meanings, for instance, the subject being a friend or relative, or likewise any other thing. This is why I've stated it on my COI page that, No paid connections. Never. Unless specified otherwise.. "Unless specified otherwise" explicitly says that if there's a conflict of interest, I'd disclose it as so, but if it is some other sort of COI, I won't be calling it "paid". I feel the whole combination is a bad choice of words which I'd be happy in rephrasing. Coming to the second thing, I was given some amount of money several days after I had written these articles,, since both the subjects are notable, I opted to write about them; and given that I didn't say no to the amount because I was in a need, and this amount helped me at that time. When i go to Medinet Habu page and click "Swap" option it displays a text saying "sawp Medinet Habu with": Medinet Habu. When enter Draft:Move/Medinet Habu[1] it shows an error message saying "Draft:Move/Medinet Habu doesn't exist.

Should one enter prefix Draft:Move[2]? or one should leave it without adding prefix[3].

TheBirdsShedTears, In this case, I'd firstly clear the primary location and move it to Medinet Habu (disambiguation) and once that's done, I'd move the primary article to this location. Following that, I'd begin the merge and then tag the dab page as an irrelevant one. I don't think you'd need a SWAP here. But for your ease, you might want to install a script that helps with SWAPS. What you are mistaking here, is that you need not to say "I'm swapping this with Draft:Move like something, but you have to enter the name of another article there. "You are swapping two pages"; thereafter the residual junk is "made and cleared off" by default. TheBirdsShedTears, If there's just one edit on "B" in such case, you should be able to G6 (delete it) and move A to B without using SWAP. However if B has a history more than one edit; open page A, click more and opt the Swap option, enter the target title (B) and proceed. Hello. As you're currently listed as a host at the Teahouse, I wanted to make sure you're aware of the imminent rollout of new Growth Team Features which every new account will be getting by default. Each users will soon see a new 'Homepage' tab next to their User page. It contains two main elements which might impact on your involvement - and you'd be welcome to get involved and help out directly with one of them.

• Firstly, they will be offered a range of 'suggested edits', and encouraged to make simple improvements to pages that interest them. (Being aware of this feature would be helpful for all Teahouse hosts if you're likely to offer advice on tasks for them to start out doing.)
• There's also a 'Your impact' box to show them how many people have seen the pages they've just edited.
• Finally, each new user is randomly assigned a 'mentor' from a list of friendly, experienced editors, like yourself. If they get stuck, they can ask a question directly to them via a Your mentor box, and hopefully get a swift, friendly answer from that mentor. Currently, this feature is given to 2% of new users, but it's set to increase to around 10% in the very near future.

See WP:SERIESA for an essay on some of the most common mistakes with articles where someone says "but its a unicorn!". Also see WP:ORGIND from NCORP. Basically, unless and until someone decides to write about the company - not reacting to announcements or PR or essentially rewording/reprinting company content - then it will continue to fail NCORP. Al-Baqi Cemetery

Hello, TheAafi,

When making a page move, please check for redirects to the page before deciding whether or not to leave a redirect from the old location to the new title. When you chose not to leave a redirect, as in this page move, it left quite a lot of broken redirects that would have been deleted by AnomieBOT III if Explicit hadn't fixed them all. If you leave a redirect when you do a page move, then the bots can change all of the existing redirects to point to the new, correct target. When you don't leave a redirect, they become broken and can all get deleted if no one is actively checking the Broken redirect page. This is especially important if a page has been moved by a vandal to a really bad title, you probably think you shouldn't leave a redirect when correcting for this because the incorrect title is so obviously wrong but, again, not leaving one breaks all of the existing redirects.

Alternatively, before you do a page move, you can go and change all of the page redirects yourself but it is much easier to leave a redirect and then the bots can make the changes for you. Of course, if the page doesn't have any redirects that point to it, this doesn't matter but many pages do. And thank you for all of your contributions! Liz ^{Read! Talk!} 19:47, 16 March 2022 (UTC)

Okay, looking a little closer at the deleted page history, it seems like there was a redirect from Al-Baqi Cemetry which was tagged for deletion and deleted a day later. I'm not sure why the bots hadn't changed all the existing redirects (they are usually pretty fast) but it might have been because of the round robin page moves that were done with this page. So, this incident is more complicated than I thought when I left the comment above but my message is still the same about checking for redirects before moving a page, especially an article that has been around for 17 years. By a seperate page on Wahhabism, I mean an article which documents the various ways the label "Wahhabi" has been deployed throughout history across various regions. So a better title would be "Wahhabi (epithet)" for such an article. So this would avoid confusion between the movement of Ibn 'Abd al-Wahhab (which is known in various encyclopaedic references as Wahhabi, Muwahhidun, etc) and the label "Wahhabism" which has numerous meanings depending on time and place, some of which are also conspiratorial.

The thing is, I dont have time to create a seperate article titled "Wahhabi (epithet)". I plan to take a break shortly. However, if you are interested in creating it, I may present some relevant Reliable sources which would be useful.

Our university just opened today for physical classes and I feel I cannot do much. By my calculations, a good 70 % of the main JSTOR content is now available for everyone at Internet Archive Scholar, with full text search provided e.g. at https://scholar.archive.org/ . The service is still in beta, but I've used it for some source-finding and it seems quite usable to me; I wonder whether that's just my experience. If you have a chance, the next time you'd be looking for a source on Google Scholar or JSTOR or similar, to perform the same search on IA scholar instead, I'd be curious to hear how it ends up. Hindustanilanguage, I had a look at this. The revert by TB seems fine to be. The information that you want to get included in the article under a section "Controversies" needs to be refurbished and condensed. Is there any way for you to summarise this information without going too much deep into this. For instance, we can just say In an interview, Agnihotri said that he does not consider himself a Bhopali despite his growing up in Bhopal. He made comments on the term "Bhopali" stating that, "Bhopali has a different connotation. You can ask any Bhopali. I will explain it to you in private. If someone says he is Bhopali, it generally means he is homosexual, a person with Nawabi likings". Following this an FIR was registered against him. Similarly, the other three could be shortened, trimmed and condensed. For example, In another interview, he criticized the efficiency of the JNV alumni and said that, "he has never met a JNU alumnus who talks about productivity and efficiency.". He subsequently changed his mind when the journalist intervened and said that the varsity has indeed produced intellectuals.
