A spoken version of introduction of article (Steinway & Sons) edit

Hi Rob T Firefly,

I have for a long time been thinking of how to get a spoken version of the introduction of the article Steinway & Sons. The article is about the famous and very prestigious piano brand Steinway & Sons. The article is long and got music files, a video file and many pictures. In the music world there are many blind people and I think they should have the opportunity to hear the introduction of this article about the world's most famous piano company. My native language is not English so therefore I have been looking for someone to help me. I have heard you speaking File:George Washington's Farewell Address.ogg and I must say that I think your way of speaking very, very good.

I would like to ask you if you please would help my by making a file with a spoken version of the introduction of the article Steinway & Sons?

Hello, and thank you for contacting me. I appreciate your kind words regarding my spoken version of George Washington's Farewell Address, and your request for a spoken version of the introduction to Steinway & Sons.
The production of spoken Wikipedia articles is handled by the group at Wikipedia:WikiProject Spoken Wikipedia, of which I am a member. In accordance with the Wikiproject's guidelines the best procedure would be to produce a spoken recording of the entire article, not only the introduction as you asked. However, Steinway & Sons is an extremely long article, and unfortunately I do not presently have the spare time to commit to producing a spoken version of it.
If you wish, you can submit a request to all the volunteers at Wikipedia:WikiProject Spoken Wikipedia for a spoken version of the article to be produced. This will add your article to the Wikiproject's list of requested spoken articles, and when many of us have time to produce a spoken article we check that list to see what users like you have asked for. The instructions for adding the request template to the article's talk page can be found at Category:Spoken Wikipedia requests. Once you've done that, the request will be in place for any willing member of the Wikiproject to fulfill.
The article is a very interesting one, and if my obligations loosen sometime soon I would like to produce a spoken version. In case I cannot, you might like to grant the other talented volunteers at the Wikiproject the opportunity to help you as well. Rob T Firefly (talk) 08:35, 13 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hi Rob,
Thank you for your answer and thank you for the links Wikipedia:WikiProject Spoken Wikipedia and Category:Spoken Wikipedia requests to pages with good information about spoken articles.
I agree, that a spoken version of the entire article, Steinway & Sons, would be the best, but yes it is a very, very long article. And it would probably be difficult to find someone that would like to speak the entire article. I heard a spoken version in British English of the article about Harry Potter (File:En Harry Potter Wikipedia article.ogg), that contains the introduction only. Therefore, I was hoping that it would be possible to create a file for the article about Steinway & Sons, that also contains the introduction only.
I think that your way of speaking is highly appropriate for the article about Steinway & Sons. Therefore, I would kindly ask you again to speak a version of just the introduction of the article. The introduction of this article is not long. I understand that you do not presently have the spare time to speak the entire article, therefore I really hope, that you would speak the introduction. It will improve the article so much.

It would be amazing if User:Rob T Firefly would create an audio file containing a spoken version of the introduction of Steinway & Sons. --Peoplefromarizona (talk) 21:02, 16 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
I very much appreciate both of your enthusiasm for my work! Thank you for the compliments.  :-) Unfortunately I really don't have any time to devote to this article at present, not even just the introduction, and I cannot foresee when that might change. I still encourage you to post your request at Wikipedia:WikiProject Spoken Wikipedia as noted above, there are very many talented people there who would be happy to be of service.
