Suite101 edit

Regarding your message about a potential COI on any Suite101 article, your concern is noted. As it happens, two larger barriers to writing that article make any potential conflict of interest moot.

  1. There isn't much information about the company outside of its own site. I contacted management to find out if there was any coverage in reliable sources that I haven't yet discovered, but they were unable to produce anything helpful.
  2. The blacklisting of the site due to actions of various writers in the past makes it highly difficult to even provide a link in the entry - an admin tried to whitelist a single page on the site for me but it was beyond his skills, and it appears the spam was so egregious that no one else really willing to put in the time to make it happen.
  3. Previously deleted articles about the site had the same problems with establishing notability that I ran into.

Writing decent articles is tough enough without those impediments, so I don't anticipate putting in the time and effort under those circumstances. If I was able to find enough information from reliable sources to actually write an article, I would certainly have indicated on the talk page that I've written for the site as well. However, I don't anticipate anyone being able to write an article on Suite101 that is verifiable and NPOV at this time - despite my expectations, the site simply isn't notable enough.--otherlleftNo, really, other way . . . 13:03, 9 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Regarding the article I wrote about Wikipedia writing that you referenced: do you think it effectively communicates that Wikipedia isn't a repository for online brochures, and that companies can only get an entry if they've done something notable? In retrospect, I probably should have noted that links are given "nofollow" tags as a matter of course. My hope was to encourage a better quality of writing and discourage spammy strategies that just keep editors busy adding speedy delete tags.--otherlleft 22:36, 9 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
I have to go away for awhile. I'll be back in July. If I don't look at this again then, please remind me. I appreciate your work here and it is frustrating to find so little about a company such as Suite101. I noticed we have an article about a competitor, Helium.com, and the writing I've seen on their site does not approach what I've seen on Suite101's, yet they've garnered a ton of independent press coverage sufficient to justify notability and build an independently referenced article. It's also interesting and impressive that Suite101 has signed on some notable writers such as Barry Schwartz. --A. B. (talkcontribs) 15:07, 10 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
Good afternoon. I just remembered to remind you about this question. No rush, since I'm not actively researching the article and don't expect to the for foreseeable future.--otherlleft 16:37, 30 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately, A. B. is still away. If you have a question, you could try me. Johnuniq (talk) 01:55, 31 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
No worries, the article I was working on in userspace was recreated by another user altogether and continues to limp along. When you get back, A.B, I want to show you an article I wrote about the futility of adding spam links to Wikipedia - I'd link to it here, but the site it's on is blacklisted.--otherlleft 00:45, 5 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Why is this website considered spam? edit

Hello, I posted a website (www.knowmycotoxins.com) on the Mycotoxins page as an external link. There is not much information on international mycotoxin regulations and this website is a purely informational site with a lot of great info on regulations. You marked it as spam awhile ago and now the link has a block on it. Could you please un-block it and also explain why it was considered to be spam? Thank you!
