@Majavah: Your reply got archived before I noticed there was one; but I managed to find it in the history. -- Eddy 84.212.132.95 (talk) 13:30, 26 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Consider requesting on the article's talk page; please provide the necessary references. The filter was triggered by the word "(elided)".

That sounds like a plausible thing for a 'bot to do. In fact, when I posted this reply, on my own Talk page the same bot intercepted my use of the same word – hence it's "(elided)" above, and I've removed where I initially used it below. Perhaps the 'bot should allow suspected vandals to vandalise their own Talk pages ;^>

It remains that this was the name by which my mother's family normally (and respectfully) addressed her uncle, a much-loved retired naval officer by the time I knew him.

If you have a reliable source I can add this information for you.

Roger Ernest Peers (I missed off his second name, forgotten, when originally writing; and I'm not sure whether it was Earnest or Ernest, but best guess is the latter) was my grandfather and Robert Witherington Peers was my great-uncle; their big brother was Charles (Jack), but I saw rather less of him. I don't have any more reliable source, other than "ask my family". I don't think Robert's compilation of family history was ever published; just passed around the family.

I also recommend creating an account as most filters do not target accounts that are autoconfirmed couple of days old and have made some edits.

I would love to, but last time I looked the namespace was so crowded – mostly with obviously-abandoned accounts – that finding a sensible unused name was more hassle than I was willing to go through.

I'm not really comfortable making the edit myself if there is no verifiable source given that our guidelines on living people (including people born after 1905 that aren't proven to be dead) are really strict on sourcing, sorry. Also regarding the username, if the account has made little or no edits and is abandoned, you can request to take over the name. The process takes some time and you need to create an account with an unused username to start it.  Majavah talk · edits 10:02, 27 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Majavah: I understand the reluctance to edit without a verifiable source. I know who Charles Reed Peers's children were (and that they're all dead) but don't know where to find published verification. Thanks for the tip on user-names. I now can't find a list of user names, since neither Category:Users nor Category:User seems to exist.
