Kirsty is a friend to Rory in the novel. She has a crush on him. It's not like the movie. I was confused at first because in the novel she refers to him as Rory and after a bit I realized she is not his daughter. Also in the novel Rory is roughly 30 years old. The movie skewed my view a bit.
