January 2020 - Category diffusing
editIf you are going to diffuse (split) a category, please put a note on the original category's talk page. If you think people might object to the change, first discuss it on the original category's talk page or categories for discussion first. It may also be helpful to advertise it at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Television.
Also, there are some technical steps that need to be taken when splitting a category, see Wikipedia:Categorization for details. I've already taken the steps to properly create pages for Category:Dystopian animated television series and Category:Post-apocalyptic animated television series. Without a page to go with the category, you wind up with an unwanted red-link-category.
At a minimum, create the page for the sub-category and make sure the page for the sub-category is in the parent category or category. For example, for both of the category pages I created, I put them in the category they were split from and in the category Animated television series. However, you should NOT put these pages in categories that their new "parent" categories are in. For example, I did NOT put them in Animated series since they are already in Animated television series. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 23:13, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- Dear Davidwr,
- Can you move the animated, post-apocalyptic television series called, Adventure Time to the another category called, "Category:Post-apocalyptic animated television series"?

- Done
- As a side-note, once a category exists, you or anyone else can add the page to the category. Also, I put a colon (":") at the beginning of the first line of your reply and an additional colon at the beginning of each line in my reply to your reply. These colons make the conversation "indent" so it is easier to follow. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 19:18, 1 February 2020 (UTC)
