Edit summaries

edit

Since India is a featured article in Wikipedia, it is recommended that you provide edit summaries to your edits (i.e. explain briefly what you are doing and why); otherwise, you risk getting the changes reverted. Edit summaries are not required by Wiki law, but it is good Wikiquette. Also, I noticed that you had changed the link North-East India to north-east India. I understand what you are trying to do, but you can't simply change the spelling of a link; otherwise, you'll get a red (inactive) link. If you want "north-east" in lower case, the way to do it is to write Wikitext: [[North-East India|north-east India]] and that will give you north-east India. Thanks. Thank you for experimenting with Wikipedia. Your test worked, and it has been reverted or removed. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you may want to do. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia. As I said to you before, please don't create "red links," otherwise you risk getting all your edits reverted, as happened just now. Also, please provide edit summaries, in the same way that I did when I reverted your edits. Thanks! Fowler&fowler«Talk» 12:18, 14 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Your edits to Connecticut

edit

Welcome, and thank you for correcting spelling on the Connecticut page on Wikipedia! However, both spellings of the word you "corrected" are acceptable.

Please familiarize yourself with American and British English spelling differences before making further spelling corrections to articles. Wikipedia has 47,589,810 registered users on this English Wikipedia. These editors use different versions of English including American English and British English. The list of dialects of the English language goes on and on.

When many styles are acceptable, avoid changing from one style to another unless there is some substantial reason for the change. It is acceptable to change from American spelling to British spelling only if the article concerns a British topic or vice versa or if you are making the article internally consistent.

More information is available at Wikipedia's Manual of Style. Enjoy your time on our encyclopædia/encyclopedia.   Thank you. A summary of your edits that I reverted can be found here.

Also, please note that directions in Wikipedia aren't hyphenated, per WP:MOS#Directions and regions. Thanks! --Elipongo (Talk|contribs) 04:33, 28 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Edit summaries

edit

Hi 49danesway,

I've noticed your edits over the last few days/weeks and am impressed with your contributions. However, when editing articles, a small "Summary" field under the main edit-box appears like this:

It is good practice (as well as good manners) to fill in the Edit Summary field with a brief explanation as to what you are contributing/changing. It need only be a few words; it helps everyone to understand what is changed, such as when perusing the history of the page.

Filling in the edit summary helps other users understand that you intend to make justifiable changes to the content rather than spoil the page also. Hope that helps. Any help required, please feel free to contact me at my talk page. Best of luck, Jhamez84 02:41, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
