November 2022 edit

Hello, I'm Fragrant Peony. I noticed that you recently removed content from National anthem of Hong Kong without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. If this is a shared IP address, and you did not make the edits referred to above, consider creating an account for yourself or logging in with an existing account so that you can avoid further irrelevant notices.

Eastern Suburbs edit

Love your input regarding governance section of Sydney's Eastern Suburbs. Well written, coherent and accurate. 2405:6E00:289:B4FC:75D4:266A:3EA5:75F7 (talk) 08:41, 4 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thank you, appreciate the kind words. --49.255.185.235 (talk) 22:57, 4 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately much of our constructive work on the Eastern Suburbs page is in vain as the editor Daceyvillain doesn't like the idea that the Eastern Suburbs has two distinct areas as he's clearly from the south-east and chooses to believe he's in the same part of Sydney as Double Bay with the eastern suburbs being Watsons Bay to La Perouse, as if that's ever been accurate. Any Sydneysider knows there's a difference between the Eastern Suburbs in Waverley and Woollahra neighbourhoods versus the South-Eastern Suburbs in City of Randwick and eastern parts of Bayside Council. They have different roads, federal divisions and are different socioeconimically and demographically, there really isn't anything wrong with acknowledging that distinction and it doesn't make either area any better nor worse than the other.
Unfortunately now you're part of the debate and because you added some more reference to the 'south-eastern suburbs', Daceyvillain has not gone off the rails and chosen to delete any reference to sub-regions on the Eastern Suburbs page altogether.
I've tried reaching out for more mediation but haven't received much. 2405:6E00:289:B4FC:64B2:E702:CFE6:10EC (talk) 03:15, 5 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yes, on the substance of the dispute I am completely with you. Anyone who's lived in Sydney for any amount of time will know that the "Eastern Suburbs" means two different things in different contexts. In the narrow sense it only means the northern section. In the wider sense it also covers the south-east. People I know who live in (say) Vaucluse have no desire to claim Maroubra as part of the same area, and conversely those I know who live in Maroubra are consistently proud of their separate working class identity. It's only blow-ins who've paid exorbitantly to live in a former housing estate (Daceyville) who feel insecure enough to pretend that Maroubra is Vaucluse. The article Daceyville, New South Wales make it sound like paradise on earth rather than the solidly working class, former public housing suburb it traditionally is. I wonder who wrote that... --49.255.185.235 (talk) 06:19, 5 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
I do not live in Daceyville. But it is disappointing that this discussion has yet again devolved into classism. Daceyvillain (talk) 06:32, 5 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Please don't keep undoing the page revision you will provoke Daceyvillain and LibStar further and unfortunately both of them are conspiring to make it seem like you and I are the same IPs and are the bad guys. I'm raising the problem of the Eastern Suburbs (Sydney) page regarding Daceyvillain on forums. But if we keep reverting the page it won't help at this stage as what I'm noticing is that all the editors take each other's sides over anon IPs regardless of who's right. 2405:6E00:289:B4FC:64B2:E702:CFE6:10EC (talk) 06:01, 5 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi 2405:6E00:289:B4FC:64B2:E702:CFE6:10EC, I'm not interested in participating in the edit-war and I won't edit the article any further. My word of advice is that User:LibStar is an experienced and responsible editor. Please try to get them onside because I think you are closer to reality than User:Daceyvillain. User:Daceyvillain is very oddball to the point where I wouldn't want to encounter them in real life. Their comments about Daceyville, especially the latest on User talk:LibStar, is borderline unhinged. It's frustrating to deal with people like this but unfortunately that's part of an open website that anyone can create an account to edit. Try not to get too emotionally invested. --49.255.185.235 (talk) 06:09, 5 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Good advice and I agree wholeheartedly. Getting involved in all this is actually toxic and damaging to my mental health because what you said about Daceyvillain hits the nail on the head. I tell myself to let it go and move on but it does bother me that I'm the one being attacked and looking like the bad guy for improving and adding to a Wikipedia page when an editor like Daceyvillain can come along, remove all the useful information to push their own opinion and get away with it. It's not fair and it's not to anyone's benefit. 2405:6E00:289:B4FC:64B2:E702:CFE6:10EC (talk) 06:18, 5 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
I have not removed any unique information from the page. The only information I removed was a redundant repetition of suburb names, which was contentious, unreferenced and which was seemingly an attempt to group suburbs into class-based regions. Daceyvillain (talk) 06:26, 5 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
I assure you I'm from Sydney's south-east and I'm not from Woollahra nor Waverley Council looking down upon the south-east in case that's what you think. We've gone back and forth with this and I'm honestly so very tired Daceyvillain, I really wish we could just all agree that the page was definitive and highly descriptive after the Governance section was added by this IP yesterday with ABS sub-regions terminology and we could all move on with our lives. I don't know why you hate the idea of the south-eastern suburbs so much Daceyvillain, it's a beautiful region of Sydney, I'm happy to live in it and you should be too, it doesn't matter if it's grouped with the Wentworth area or not. They're both great eastern regions of Sydney. We don't need to continue this. 2405:6E00:289:B4FC:64B2:E702:CFE6:10EC (talk) 06:35, 5 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Whatever your claimed perspective is, there are some people who do look down on parts of the Eastern Suburbs, and the push to divide the Eastern Suburbs into sub-regions (despite maps generally not doing this) was making it easier for prejudice and discrimination.
This is obviously a contentious topic and it would be simpler if Wikipedia could stick to facts that come with strongly sourced references.
As it stands today, the only government source you have provided with a map for South East Sydney was explicit in stating that the Eastern Suburbs continued southward past Bondi Junction and did not end at Bondi Junction. And the map was a bit strange in that it also included regions that are not geographically east, like Rockdale. Daceyvillain (talk) 07:06, 5 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
I couldn't agree more with the prejudice and discrimination, people in the Waverley and Woollahra Council regions think Eastgardens is 'too far' for them and live in their little bubbles never visiting La Perouse and looking down on the south-east. The south-east is a beautiful region of Sydney and is far less congested than the Wentworth area. Both are beautiful for different reasons, in all honesty I wish the entire region were fluid and people who lived in it appreciated and visited everything it has to offer from Watsons Bay to La Perouse but unfortunately residents in the south-east don't often visit the Wentworth area and people in the Wentworth area often look down on the south-east like it's 'too far' when it's right next door and barely separated by Centennial Park. I don't agree with the divide but unfortunately it is evident. 2405:6E00:289:B4FC:64B2:E702:CFE6:10EC (talk) 07:15, 5 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
