Conflict of interest edit

  Hello, 2605:E000:141C:C878:D02B:3CDD:6A4D:5EE2. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 09:13, 27 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

If this is a shared IP address, and you did not make the edits referred to above, consider creating an account for yourself or logging in with an existing account so that you can avoid further irrelevant notices.
Hi IP 2605:E000:141C:C878:D02B:3CDD:6A4D:5EE2. If you are Jeff Greenstein as you are claiming here, then you would be considered to have a conflict of interest by Wikipedia with respect to anything written about you on Wikipedia. Please read through Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons#Dealing with articles about yourself and Wikipedia:Conflict of interest for more specific information on the types of editing that Wikipedia considers acceptable for COI editors to make. In general, you should refrain from directly editing the article yourself and instead seek assistance from others as explained in Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide#Steps for engagement. If you have any further questions about this, you can ask for help at Wikipedia:Teahouse, Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard or Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard. -- Marchjuly (talk) 09:21, 27 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

I would very much appreciate any help anyone might offer in improving the page in question. This whole back-and-forth was apparently ignited when I innocuously attempted to add a citation link to the TV Academy's web page, replacing an obsolete link to IMDB. I have read the COI page and feel confident the proposed edit was in the interest of clarity, not promotion. Thanks for everyone's patience... More outright lies. Here, where you reverted my completely appropriate edit of January 4, is where it started. Inserting a reference to IMDB, not removing it. John from Idegon (talk) 05:40, 28 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Wow, I guess this is all born of an innocent misunderstanding. You see, I didn't know at the time that IMDB pages were no longer appropriate sources for Wikipedia. Would you like to calm down now and work together to make the page better? Thanks so much for your help, John. I defer to your expertise. With every good wish, Jeff 2605:E000:141C:C878:D02B:3CDD:6A4D:5EE2 (talk) 05:47, 28 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
