Indian Railways

You asked me to look at the Indian Railways article with a view to a GA nomination. You said "despite...citations" as if you want me to review this neglecting the lack of citations. This is not possible, or at least would be a wasted effort, verification is at the heart of what makes material suitable for Wikipedia and citations are the means of providing this. It is pointless doing cleanup on unreferenced prose because when references are found the prose may well need to be completely rewritten to comply with the sources.

As far as GA is concerned, the maintenance template at the top of the article needs dealing with as that is cause for an instant speedy fail. It is not just a case of removing the template: numerous facts do not have citations. One example, "With approximately 1.36 million permanent employees, Indian Railways is the world's second largest employer" needs a citation. It also begs the question who are they second behind? Possibly this was in fn#14 (following sentence) but that is now a deadlink. There is also a problem that there is disagreement with the figure in the article lede. In general the lede does not need citations as it should be merely summarising the body of the article. This is just one example, the entire article needs going through and all the sources should be checked for deadlinks and other problems (you can use the Checklinks tool).

The lede is not a good summary of the article (fails GA 1b), see WP:LEAD. The history section is a bit short and might possibly fail GA criterion 3a. The locomotives section could say a little bit more too. There is coverage of the divisions of Indian Railways but not much is said about the network - principle routes, main hubs, possibly a map.

You might want to consider asking for a copyedit of the article (but sort the referencing first). There are numerous places a copyedit will improve this, and some where it hard to understand the sense of the text, example; "the seats usually made up of pressed wood, but the cushioned seats have been rapidly replaced".

GA 1b requires compliance with WP:EMBED. You might want to consider whether some of the tables would be better off as prose.

The section under "References" called "Popular sources" look to me as if they should be under external links. They do not seem to be referencing anything. In any case there needs to be some severe pruning there. Indian Railways Fan Club seems a dubious external link. If not removed altogether, the numerous links should be reduced to one page from which the user can navigate. Many other external links need pruning.

Hope that is of some help. SpinningSpark 18:38, 29 May 2012 (UTC)

I'm not sure why you removed all of this. Perhaps you only intended to remove the gallery. SpinningSpark 16:41, 30 May 2012 (UTC)
In response to your post on my talk page, it would be best to first discuss the images with other editors on the article's talk page. Regards, Nick-D (talk) 23:47, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

F.I.R. (TV series)

I am not really interested in reviewing media articles like F.I.R. (TV series). I have no idea whether or not the program is notable, but it is almost entirely unsourced which is a problem in itself. The one reference there is points to a nomination for the Indian Telly Awards. I really have no idea how much notability that confers in India, but I would presume it is enough to justify an article. Adding reference on wiki articles

Just follow the steps 1, 2 and 3 as shown and fill in the details

Hello 25 Cents FC! Please do not forget to add references for the content you add to Wikipedia. Adding a well formatted references is very easy to do.

  1. While editing any article or a wikipage, on the top of the edit window you will see a toolbar which says "cite" click on it
  2. Then click on "templates",
  3. Choose the most appropriate template and fill as many details as you can,

This will add a well formatted reference that would be helpful in case the website link (web URL) becomes inactive (dead/link rot) after some time. thanks and regards --ÐℬigXЯaɣ 07:08, 2 June 2012 (UTC)

Help

Hi, I'm not getting what problem happened with this. Please settle it.   25 CENTS VICTORIOUS (talk) 16:22, 4 June 2012 (UTC)

The problem is that the clip is too long. Music samples should be a maximum of 30 seconds long, or 10% of the song's length if it is shorter than 5 minutes. You can find out more about using music samples here. Danger! High voltage! 20:19, 4 June 2012 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Page notice

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Page notice, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to have no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent. If the page you created was a test, please use the sandbox for any other experiments you would like to do. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions about this.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Bihco (talk) 08:56, 5 June 2012 (UTC)

Removing Sourced content from Articles

Hi Cents, I hope you are enjoying your editing experience here. I saw a mojor removal of content here from one of my watchlisted articles. Although i neither approve nor oppose this removal of content, but I felt I must remind you, that removal of content or blanking needs to be done carefully. I must appreciate that your Edit summary was good, but it is advisable that while removing well sourced content that you do not agree with, you should copy paste the content that you have removed to the talk page with a sepereate section explaining why you have removed it. this will help the editors in future. regards--DℬigXray 14:58, 12 June 2012 (UTC)

  • I saw your comment, i have moved the content from the old version of the article from the history to the talk page. you may take a look to understand how to do it properly. The sources/references are as important as the content, do not censor them while moving. regards --DℬigXray 15:18, 12 June 2012 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:Divya bharti in 1992.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Divya bharti in 1992.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 12:54, 13 June 2012 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Divya bharti in 1992.jpg)

Thanks for uploading File:Divya bharti in 1992.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:27, 18 June 2012 (UTC)

Request for protection of Lucknow

Hi 25 Cents FC. I have removed your request for indefinite page protection of Lucknow at WP:RPP. You are requesting that an article be permenantly locked from editing becuase of a single edit by an IP, which was not even vandalism but merely an unsourced addition. Referring to the IP editor as a "racist" also constituted a personal attack. Please remember to assume good faith, and do not file frivolous requests like this in future. Yunshui  10:10, 21 June 2012 (UTC)

25 Cents FC likes this. Hi, sorry for the Referring to the IP editor as a "racist".I did because the whole article looks very confusing and it isn't seems encyclopedic. Majority of the edits has been done by IP editor. But anyways I apologies.   --25 CENTS VICTORIOUS (talk) 10:19, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
There are certainly a lot of problems with the article as it stands, but they can be fixed (see Ahmedabad currently at GA review, to see how it is in fact possible to write encyclopedic articles on Indian cities!). IP editing is often par for the course on such pages. It can be easy to overreact in the heat of the moment, and I understand your frustration; just be aware that RPP is for dealing with persistent vandalism, not one-off dubious edits. Apology unneccessary, but accepted, and thank you for the beer! Yunshui  10:37, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
Hi Cents, wiki community is strict with regards to WP:NPA and expects editors to be wp:CIVIL Yunshui has already explained, to which I agree. As you are new, there may be mistakes no doubt, this being one of them. But there are ways to avoid it. Such as asking for a second opinion from me or using {{helpme}} or you can even ask on WP:HELPDESK (or use chat at WP:IRC ) they will provide you the best suggestion on how to deal with things you are not sure about. After some time with experience such mistakes will not occur. an Important thing to understand is asking questions is always encouraged. Do no feel shy to ask, Even admins go for second opinion from others on things they are not very sure about. I hope you are spending time looking at the pages in {{guideline list}}. They are very helpful.
as you are aware of the term vandal. Its time to check out the page WP:VANDAL to be sure what can be called vandalism and what can be called good faith edit and how to deal with it properly. regards--DBigXray 10:42, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
