December 2016 edit

Hello, I'm Jim1138. I noticed that in this edit to Flag of Europe, you removed content without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, the removed content has been restored. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Jim1138 (talk) 09:43, 29 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

If this is a shared IP address, and you did not make the edits, consider creating an account for yourself or logging in with an existing account so you can avoid further irrelevant notices.

Flag of Europe edit

Suggestion: Start a Wikipedia:Requests for comment (RfC) on the talk page. Make sure you have your ducks-in-a-row. I.e. have references in place. See help:referencing for beginners. No need to have the <ref></ref> stuff on talk pages. Otherwise, the reference can be hard to find. Also, see wp:talk page guidelines. Sign your talk (on talk pages) with four tildes: "~~~~" That is what I do to generate the links and the time stamp. BTW: Personally, I don't care what it's called. Just make it wp:verifiable. I would recommend that you get an wp:account for reasons listed on that page. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 11:02, 29 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Removing messages edit

Please don't remove (constructive) messages from your talk page just to make them disappear, it is against Wikipedia etiquette. About the Flag of Europe article, please use the talk page of said article before making major modifications. 88.132.145.166 (talk) 11:12, 29 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Notice of Edit warring noticeboard discussion edit

Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion involving you at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Edit warring regarding a possible violation of Wikipedia's policy on edit warring. Thank you. Rob984 (talk) 14:46, 29 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

December 2016 edit

Anonymous users from this IP address have been blocked from editing for a period of 24 hours for edit warring. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may request an unblock by first reading the guide to appealing blocks, then adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.

During a dispute, you should first try to discuss controversial changes and seek consensus. If that proves unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection.  MusikAnimal talk 18:04, 29 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

If this is a shared IP address and you are an uninvolved editor with a registered account, you may continue to edit by logging in.

Response to your comment edit

In case you missed it on the talk page at Flag of Europe, here is my response:

Not really comparable. The flag of Europe was created as a flag representing the whole of Europe and agreed upon by the member states of the Council of Europe—a Europe-wide body. Later the EEC adopted this symbol, along with the anthem of Europe, as a European body. The flag is still officially recognised by the Council of Europe as the flag of Europe. Greanted, there is a misconception that is it only the flag of the EU, but why should Wikipedia help to exacerbate this misconception? Surely we should convey accurate information? Neither the Council of Europe or the EU refer to the flag as the "flag of the EU".

Please discuss this matter. Edit warring will just get you blocked. Your edit will never stick that way, and it is just disruptive to Wikipedia. You need consensus to make the change. Please, if nothing else, acquaint yourself with WP:CONSENSUS.

Thanks.

Okay, going by your logic at least one of these two institutions should cover the whole continent for this to make sense, but they don't. The Vatican, Belarus and Kosovo are not in these two organizations!, Just like with the US, everybody knows that it's wrong to call the flag in wikipedia, "Flag of America or American flag" even though the people in the US always call it that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.144.126.211 (talkcontribs)
Well, regardless, the Council of Europe aims to represent Europe and the Flag of Europe was agreed upon by all member states' governments, and thus by representatives of the vast majority of the European population. The flag of the African Union is precisely that, a flag representing an organisation. The flag of Europe represents the people of Europe and is used by the people of Europe, inside and outside of the EU. The symbol itself is used far more broadly then just to represent the EU. Is the flag of the African Union? You're making a straw man argument. The flag is used to represent Europe as a whole and you have not at all refute that argument. Instead you are drawing meaningless comparisons. Rob984 (talk) 09:21, 31 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
I'll move that comment onto the talk page at Talk:Flag of Europe#Page title. Reply there rather then here. Rob984 (talk) 09:28, 31 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
