Managing a conflict of interest

edit

  Hello, 190.197.12.235. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the article Shyne, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 03:46, 19 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Conflict of Interest

edit

If you have a conflict of interest you need to use the article's talk page to propose edits. On Wikipedia we need verifiable sources (see WP:V and WP:RS) as well as non promotional language. Using terms like "Shyne became a mythical figure in hip hop, revered for his music as well as his morals and ethics." and "His musical genius" [1] is not neutral. Please use the talk page to introduce new edits and do not edit it yourself if you have a COI, which you declared to have in this edit summary [2].   Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to add soapboxing, promotional or advertising material to Wikipedia, you may be blocked from editing. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 15:03, 19 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

  You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you remove or blank page content or templates from Wikipedia, as you did at Shyne. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 21:24, 19 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Please read and take notice of the messages above, particularly the information about conflict of interest.
  • If there are factual inaccuracies in the article you have been editing, then explain what they are and why they are inaccurate, and ask for an independent editor to review what you say. If appropriate he or she can then make the relevant changes. To call attention to your request you can put {{help me}} above your message. That will add the page to a list of pages where there are requests for help, so that sooner or later someone will come along and check your message. The best place to post a request for changes to a particular article is on the talk page of that article, in this case Talk:Shyne. If possible you should provide links to reliable sources which give evidence that there are factual inaccuracies, as it is not always safe to assume that something is true simply because someone comes along to Wikipedia and says so.
  • If it is a question not of factual inaccuracy but of simply wanting to make the article show you in the way you would prefer, whether you do that by adding content you like or by removing content you don't like, then you should not be doing so at all. Wikipedia does not exist to serve as a platform for people to present themselves to the world in the way they prefer: you can do that on your own web site if you have one, and if not then somewhere else such as social networking sites. Wikipedia aims to present subjects in line with the way they are presented in independent reliable sources, which is very often different from how people who are subjects of articles see themselves. Also, no article should ever contain expressions of personal opinion, nor should it contain any kind of promotion, whether it be promotion of music, political work, or anything else.
  • I have put a message about the problems with the article, which will show when anyone tries to edit there, in the hope that doing so will draw your attention to the messages on this page. So far you have shown no sign of having read them or taken notice of them, and you have certainly not changed your editing practices in line with what you have been told. I certainly don't wish to prevent you from calling attention to inaccuracies in the article if there are any, but simply repeatedly changing the article to better reflect your personal preferences, without explaining why or answering concerns expressed by other editors, is not the way to do it. Please do respond to the messages on this page. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 10:39, 20 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
