Thanks!

Thanks for the congrats and the offer of help. I was actually hoping to have someone to go to with questions about the tools so I don't bungle anything up, so I'm really glad you offered. See you around! delldot | talk 00:49, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

Category

Hey, I was wondering if I could create a category page that would list all the people that I've given "newbie welcomes" to. This would help me to keep track of them better than writing them all down myself. I couldn't really find any policy about this, and I don't know if I could make such a category under my own userspace. Help me out? -- Kevin (TALK) 16:38, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

If you make your own welcome template then you can see to whose page you have added it by clicking on the 'what links here' link on the left-hand side of the page. Categorising is a little harder to do. (aeropagitica) 17:01, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
Smart solution. That'll be a lot easier. Thanks. --Kevin (TALK) 18:17, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the revert

Thanks for the revert on my talk page. I was off reporting the user to AIV. Regards, Flyguy649 20:48, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

Tabgtofa

I saw that you gave this user two warnings within 1 minute. Is it possible that this user made the second bad edit, whatever it was, before seeing the first warning? Zbl 22:03, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

It's possible but who can tell in a hypothetical situation? The messagebox would have popped up as per usual. (aeropagitica) 22:08, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

I saw something similar happen to a friend. One warning was sent while he edited another page, so the message didn't come up until he was done. He is now a good editor, though. Zbl 22:09, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

I would also consider the nature of the edits - they were entirely non-encyclopedic and admin-baiting in their design and execution. I feel the block is justified. (aeropagitica) 22:12, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

He is blocked? I didn't see that come up. Design and execution. What does that mean? Zbl 22:16, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

Ah, no - my mistake. I was crossing two vandal editors in my mind whilst doing something else there, sorry. No, the block log is clear but the contributions - Make Me An Admin and You are now blocked are certainly non-encyclopedic and can't really be described as 'bad edits' even in the most charitable light. (aeropagitica) 22:23, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

I can't see the contribs, as I am not an admin. Zbl 22:29, 19 February 2007 (UTC) Odd article titles, though.

I take it with your last comment that you are actually being serious and not attempting to troll me? If the editor can justify their actions as being within the aims of the project then I would me more-than-happy to listen to them. May I ask your interest in this transaction? I don't believe that this editor requires representation, if that is what you are supplying, and I also further believe that my decisions were proportionate to the nature of the edits. (aeropagitica) 22:33, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

I'm serious, I just don't want a mistake to happen to another person that happened to my friend. By the way, does he violate WP:U? Zbl 22:41, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

There was no mistake with the vandalism warnings. The username is a secondary issue - you can recommend WP:CHU to the editor if you wish. This conversation is now closed. (aeropagitica) 22:47, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

additional vandalism on Nome (Egypt), and there are a lot of warnings on the talk page. blocking may be good right around now. thanks. -Cquan 18:12, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

These things are better reported at WP:AIV in case an admin has stepped away from their computer, like I had at this moment. I will look in to it now. (aeropagitica) 18:28, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Samwell

A page recently deleted (Samwell) was remade in protest. In needs re-deleted, but the editor has requested a copy of the old page. Is that a possibility? SERSeanCrane 02:53, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Yes - just go in to the deleted edits, select the most recent version and place the text on to a user sub-page, such as User:(aeropagitica)/subpage, where 'subpage' is the article title. That should leave it free for the user to edit the text or copy it to their hard disk or other storage medium, if they prefer. (aeropagitica) 05:38, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

RfA thanks

Hi, (aeropagitica), I just wanted to thank you for your support on my RfA, which was successful with a final tally of 61/0/2. I'm very honoured by the level of trust the community has placed in me and hope my conduct as an administrator will justify this trust. If you have any comments about my use of the tools I would be glad to hear from you on my talk page. Thanks again! Heimstern Läufer 06:23, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Admin coaching

Did User:SP-KP ever contact you about admin coaching? (see here) If not, I'm going to remove his name from the request list and free you up for a new student. Thanks, Fang Aili talk 17:21, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

No, I wasn't contacted as a follow-up to this. Please go ahead and assign someone else to me. Also, I am going on a Wikibreak until March 11th, so I won't be available regularly until then. Regards, (aeropagitica) 17:45, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Hello! I was wondering if you would take me for admin coaching? I've bypassed the list in the hope that it would be quicker. Thankyou! microchip08 17:47, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

I have a question

how is my article, Future articles, vandalism? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Sebastian10 (talkcontribs) 22:06, 22 February 2007 (UTC).

Firstly, please sign your Talk page comments with four tildes, ~~~~, as this helps editors to respond to your questions. Secondly, articles are supposed to be about notable things, people, objects, processes, events, etc. Articles are not for speculation about the future. Please read the help pages linked on the left-hand side of every page for details about making effective contributions to Wikipedia. Regards, (aeropagitica) 22:10, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

My RfA

My request for adminship has closed successfully (79/0/1), so it appears that I am now an administrator. Thanks very much for your vote of confidence. If there's anything I can ever do to help, please don't hesitate to let me know. IrishGuy talk 01:25, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

Another RfA thankyou

Thankyou for supporting my RfA which ended with (47/0/0). I don't plan on deleting the main page or blocking Jimbo, but if you do think I'm misbehaving, I'm always open to recall. Thanks, James086Talk 12:28, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

Notability Criteria

I don't understand your decision to delete Nick Anthis without any discussion of the issue. I would argue that the subject meets basic notability criteria, as he was featured in The New York Times and Nature Magazine, as referenced in the article, for breaking a major national news story. Although the article was, as you point out, autobiographical, this alone, according to the Wikipedia guidelines, does not automatically qualify it for deletion, especially since the article did not present any subjective information that could be influenced by a conflict of interest. Also, the article had been edited by others whom the subject has no relation to.Biochemnick 22:29, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

I forgot to add, to bolster my case, that there is a Wikipedia article for George Deutsch, the Bush Administration appointee who Nick Anthis outed from NASA. The role of Nick Anthis is clearly detailed in that preexisting entry as well. If anything, this is an article that should have been debated, but certainly not, in my opinion, a candidate for automatic deletion.Biochemnick 22:49, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

My RfA

Thanks for your support in my recent RfA which passed unanimously - thus proving that you can indeed fool some of the people some of the time. I'm still coming to terms with the new functionality I have, but so far nothing bad has happened. As always, if there's anything you need to let me know, just drop me a line on my Talk page. Survey Invitation

Hi there, I am a research student from the National University of Singapore and I wish to invite you to do an online survey about Wikipedia. Thanks!

Thanks for your support on my RfA. It passed with 55/0/0. I'll try my best to be worthy of the trust the community has put in me. If there are any of my actions you have a problem with or a question about, please feel free to discuss this with me and if needed to revert me. If there is anything else I can help you with (backlogs, comments, ...), you can always contact me on my talk page. Fram 14:36, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi, aeropagitica. Still on the RfA support-thanking trail here. And as well as your support, thanks for your kinds words too. Age category

Hello! If you are receiving this message, that means that your user page is in a specific year category. Per a recent user-category per deletion, all specific year categories are to be deleted. If you wish to continue using year categories, you have two options:

If you wish, you may do both. Hopefully, this change in categorization will be quick and painless. Happy editing! --An automated message from MessedRobot 12:43, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Admin Coaching

Hello, I noticed that you would be free to do admin coaching as of March 11, 2007. I would like to request you as a coach. In the past I have participated in disambiguation link sorting, stub sorting, new page patrol, RC patrol, and welcoming of new users. As I have been here awhile, I feel that I have learned a great deal about the inner workings of Wikipedia, and that I am improving every day. I believe that I would make a good administrator, but I also believe that I would not want to become an admin until I have learned more about the job. If you are willing to coach me, I would greatly appreciate it, and thanks for contributing to Wikipedia!--Vox Rationis (Talk | contribs) 14:20, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

I would like to retract my previous request, as another user has offered to coach, but thanks anyways!--Vox Rationis (Talk | contribs) 12:42, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Concerning your Admin Coaching assignments

Your name is still listed at Wikipedia:Admin coaching/Volunteers.

Note that the instructions may have changed since the last time you checked, and the department now follows a self-help process.

If you don't currently have a student, or if you believe you can handle another one, select a student from the request list at Wikipedia:Admin coaching/Requests and contact them. See the instructions on Wikipedia:Admin coaching. Good luck.

If you are no longer available to coach, , please remove yourself from the volunteers list.

Thank you. The Transhumanist    03:16, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Admin Coaching

Hi. I saw that you were free to do admin coaching, and I'd like to request you as a coach. Generally I revert vandalism, and I've been hanging around AFD and TFD discussions a lot more, as well as welcoming new users as I see them. I'd like to be an administrator when I believe I'm ready- a few months, maybe? But I'd like to know more about adminship through the admin coaching program before I submit an RFA. Trouble moving article

The article 5-MeO-DIPT is actually the incorrect name of the drug. The actual name is 5-MeO-DiPT, with a lowercase "i". Evidence for this is seen in the article itself. I know this is a small typo, but it should still be fixed all the same. The trouble that I'm having is that the article labeled "5-MeO-DiPT" is a redirect to 5-MeO-DIPT. This prohibits me from making the page move. Talk to me if you have any more questions. Thanks! -- Kevin (TALK)(MUSIC) 21:03, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

The Impossible Quiz

I've recently played a game called "the impossible quiz" and thought whether there was a Wikipedia article about it (I don't think it's notable enough though) when I came across this. It seems that you dismissed that page as "nonsence." Rebekah Del Rio - ERASE

hi! subject: on speedy deletion and notability of article regarding Rebekah Del Rio and her voice

1. i have not much of an idea of the problem you raised (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rebekah_Del_Rio).

2. i didn't mean to disturb anyone. I read your msg (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Emenenus&redirect=no) and hastily tried to delete http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rebekah_Del_Rio. I haven't succeded. i don't know how to do it. if someone can, please delete (speedily or/and hastily) the article mentioned above. or write me a msg (preferably to emenus@gmail.com) about the specs involved, and i'll delete it myself. if i can.

3. i don't understand the fact, how this pedia is broken up to categories (biographies & such, or way worse - in languages - my 1st lang is HUN, but i consider the fact of serching 2 or more Dbases for a def tiresome). anyway, when i 1st heard of Rebekah Del Rio i fired up my opera, locked on to http://en.wikipedia.org/ and searched for a descrition/article regarding her voice. found none. well i signed in to wiki, and made one. it was tedious. but i said to myself, she deserves it. it took me half a day. and i know this. tomorrow some 15yro kid will insert his dad's mullholand dr dvd into the player, watch it, press pause after rebekah's performance, turn to http://en.wikipedia.org/ for some answers regarding her, and boom: none!

lastily. please someone who has a clue, delete the Rebekah_Del_Rio post, the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Emenenus, and this (this right here) post/comment. Thanks and sorry for any inconvenience i caused. bye wiki, i'll never-ever use you again. i swear. YT Mike NOT Nichols 12:37, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Marking talk page edits as minor

Thanks for blocking 209.120.162.18. You might already know this, but marking edits to talk pages as minor prevents the "new messages" banner from coming up. For this reason, it's typically not a good idea to mark talk page edits as minor. —Remember the dot (talk) 16:14, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

No, I didn't know that - you *do* learn something new every day, don't you! Thanks for the heads up. (aeropagitica) 17:34, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

Ahh, sorry. According to this, I am mistaken and that rule only applies to bots, so you marking edits to talk pages as minor is not actually a problem. —Remember the dot (talk) 01:27, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the clarification! Happy Easter! (aeropagitica) 11:03, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Dynamic IP Question

Hey. I don't really know how to phrase this question, but I'll do the best I can. I am a recent changes patrolee, and was wondering how a dynamic IP would show up in a service like ARIN. --Umalee 00:34, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Sorry, I don't understand your question - ARIN? Also, if your are a patrolee that means that you are subject to patrols - I think that you mean patroller, one who patrols the recent changs. (aeropagitica) 11:05, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

On the topic of pit beef sandwiches

I feel you were a bit swift to delete my Pit beef sandwich entry. I agree the page I created was light on content, but the subject matter is legitimate. I took the time to correctly categorize and stub the node, and I gave a brief description of the pit beef sandwich. Perfect, no, but I was planning to come back to it, and others should be given chance to improve what I started, as is the spirit of wikipedia. I created the node as a signed in user, that has made "few" but legitimate changes in the past. If I have done something wrong that I am not seeing will you please let me know? jphofmann 16:21, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Firstly, new comments on my Talk page are placed at the bottom rather than the top in order to maintain the chronological order. Secondly, reading Sandwich you will see that sandwich types are discussed but that articles on sandwich fillings are not. This would result in a large collection of non-notable articles, as sandwiches can be filled with almost anything - this does not make them notable. Likewise a list of sandwich fillings would be equally non-notable and difficult to navigate around. Categorising and stubbing an article doesn't mean that it is inherently notable or encyclopedic in scope, tone and content. Your edit summary of "sources and more to come, i am eating pit beef for lunch today to get material!" hardly inspires confidence that the article was notable. (aeropagitica) 16:29, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for taking the time for a good response. Sorry about the order thing. I feel the Baltimore Pit beef sandwich in the order of the Philadelphia Cheese steak. It is a "regional delicacy" so to speak, not merely a sandwich filling, but I can certainly understand your confusion. If I choose to make a pit beef sandwich entry again I will try to make that clear. [1] describes the idea of what I am trying to contain in a wiki entry. Thanks again for your help. jphofmann 16:40, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

No problem! I see that you refer to the Philly cheesesteak in your response. You are right that this is a regional variation but it isn't an individual sandwich in it's own right, it is a variation of a sandwich type, the cheesesteak and as such it is a notable local cuisine item. The difference as I see it is that your description was of an individual sandwich rather than a variant of a sandwich type. If yours is a type of sandwich then perhaps it could be added to the appropriate article? Or you could research the variations on that type of sandwich and collate them together in the style of the Cheesesteak article, with references and citations, etc. Finally, try forming the article in a sandbox user sub-page to avoid speedy deletions as happened today. This will allow you to develop in peace and you can request that other editors review your material before you move it in to the main article space. Regards and Happy Easter! (aeropagitica) 16:48, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

User:KentuckyHomosexual

Why was KentuckyHomosexual blocked? I'm usually for blocking usernames against policy, but this seems to me like someone describing there state and orientation. Also, autoblock wasn't disabled. --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@(Lets go Yankees!) 00:17, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

The username is a synonym of Kentuckyfag, a derogatory word for homosexual, at least in America. The request was made at AIV on the basis that the creator of these accounts was not conforming to username policy. On your last point, I will double-check the autoblock and redo it if necessary. I thought that I had covered it. Regards, (aeropagitica) 00:37, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
If the reason the username is against policy is that it's derogatory, further usernames shouldn't be blocked for being "synonyms" unless the synonyms are also derogatory, should they? --Random832 04:27, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

Will the autoblock now automatically go away since the block has expired or will it last 24 hours? --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@(Lets go Yankees!) 00:52, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

I have reviewed the block and removed the autoblock that I thought that I had unticked before committing. Thanks for the heads up on that one. In any case, I believe that the autoblock would expire at the same time as a limited-duration block. (aeropagitica) 00:56, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

But since you unblocked the user (before reblocking with no autoblock), does the autoblock expire when/if the user is unblocked? --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@(Lets go Yankees!) 00:59, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

As far as I can determine, the expiration of a block will also see any other constraints placed upon an account/IP address also expire. (aeropagitica) 01:03, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

Along the same lines, you blocked User:UcancallmeNerdie and disabled account creation. I'm assuming this was mistake, but I figured I'd check here first. John Reaves (talk) 03:27, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

Daniel Crotty Article

You deleted this article when I had added a "hangon" template to it. You did not post anything on the talk page. I don't mean to be disrespectful, but it appears to me that you are another administrator with a hapy trigger finger for deleting articles. I was doing a quick search to see if the subject of the article was relatively well known and if sources could be cited. As it turns out, I was going to remove the "hangon" message anyway, but you did not give me a chance. Randomfrenchie 22:51, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

You have the right to your opinion, naturally. There was no {{hangon}} template on the article at the time of deletion. (aeropagitica) 22:55, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
