Robert (Bob) Earll is a complex man, someone whose name is being tossed around as people seek him out online. (Not to be confused with Dr. Bob Earll of UK.) This entry is about Robert Earll who wrote for tv series like Hill Street Blues, Nightstalker, Ironside from the 1960s through the 1990s. His film credits list him as a writer, producer, developer over a span of years in which he was involved with creating truly remarkable story lines for gripping tv series. His talent as a writer may well be connected to a life lived on the edge, as revealed in his autobiographical book "I Got Tired of Pretending" (1989; ISBN: 0922641692), STEM Publications (P.O. Box 8307, Tucson, Arizona 85738) and in another book "Turning on the Light: A plan for empowerment & fullness of life" (STEM, 1992; ISBN: 0922641641). Truly, all of life is grist for a writer.

As Bob Earll, an energetic and energizing speaker, he impacts lives of people who meet him, who hear his tapes, read his books and see their own lives more clearly as a result of the life he shares - without stinting and in excruciating detail - in person and in "I Got Tired of Pretending". Life? Lives! His own life and the ongoing and challenging lives of his Inner Child and his Inner Adolescent and other entities in various states of unhinged abandon, all of whom he calls on in his presentations to thousands of fans. I know. I was one of them in the 1980s as he told my own story to me and to thousands sitting in amazement as he spoke. I'm still a fan of his, still catch occasionally his tv shows in re-run. I still have a box of his tapes. They rock my world.

My own debt is such that I want to start this article, hoping that others will add to the info here.

Really great to see someone writing about this remarkable man, whom I have never met, but have the greatest admiration for. Bob Earll came into my life, as I began recovery from a very brutal childhood at the beginning of the 1990s in the North of England. He helped me to understand many things which as a child, I was powerless to control, or to protect myself against. I have many of his recovery tapes and some CD's also, and have read his book 'I got tired of pretending'. There is an organisation is North Carolina, www.sobrietytalks.com, who still sell his material on CD, for anyone interested in issues concerning recovery and healing, from the alcoholic and dysfunctional family...He is for me one of the greatest speakers in the recovery field for Adult Children..Thank you Bob.

Added on April 3, 2011 by ctalltree: Bob Earll is instrumental in saving thousands upon thousands of people in recovery, by talking about the pain of sobriety from addiction. He challenged people to go past "just don't drink" to really delve into their other issues to enhance sobriety, to make existence worthwhile. These included nutrition, stopping smoking, therapy, seeking out other recovery programs such as ACOA and NA... the list is endless. He saved my life, when everyone was talking about pink clouds but I was in silent pain... and I still think of him on a regular basis. He was in a car accident a few years ago, and I lost track of his whereabouts and well-being. Bob, if you are reading this: Thank you. Thank you for my life. Thank you for being instrumental for my 26 years of sobriety.

Added by Mike F. First became aware of him in 1985, finally met Bobby and spoke with him a few times in Tuscon circa 1990. I will attest this man's words took me well past the "just don't drink" part of sobriety. Thank you for being a major input, that has worked for nearly 10,000 24 hours now. Wherever you are Bobby, I hope your well.

I heard him talk when I was an impatient inpatient at Sierra Tucson in 1991. He blew me away with his ability to connect with this big crowd of newly sober people. He talked about telling his wife: "You are a good wife." And then he said to us, "And I know what a good wife is...She is my eighth wife."

He talked about inviting his mother to meet his newborn daughter. She couldn't come, she was feeling weaka and tired. He waited and invited her again. Again, she wasn't feeling up for the trip. He kept on trying to invite his mother, she kept on delaying and stalling. Then one day his mother called, very excited. "Hey Bobby, I am so happy!" she said. "The girls at the church and I are going to do a tour of Europe! Seven cities in ten days!" He hung up the phone and realized that she didn't really want to see her new granddaughter. Bob concluded: Look at what people do, not what they say.

Taught me inner child work around 1992 which saved my life and kept me in recovery till today. I share the tools with sponsees in coda and in my book Wolfchilde a cunning linguist 12 step atheist. We keep what we have only by giving it away.

HIS WIVES: I was one of many married to the guru. Are there any others out there?

LOOKING FOR BOB EARLL! Hello. Please help. Like the same for many thousand people, Bobby Earll was a HEEE-UGE influence in my recovery. BUT. For years now whenever his name comes up at meetings no one has an answer as to his whereabouts. Last known word was he was in a car accident and then living in an assisted care facility in Reno. There's thousands of people in the Southern CA. area who would benefit, if only for having some closure, on knowing where he is. Even if it's (sadly) a grave site that we might make a pilgrimage too. I am hoping someone out there might know more. Please help. And thank you so much in advance for your time and kindly consideration.
