History

edit

On September 25, 2023, the WMLK took a significant step by revealing the home cities for each of its 8 teams. This strategic move, spearheaded by Jenkins, reflects the league's commitment to affiliating teams with specific geographic areas, a decision that has proven successful in capturing the attention and viewership of casual fans. The league further announced its plan for a 11-week regular season, with two weekends hosted at neutral sites and the remaining eight held by individual teams.

In a groundbreaking initiative, the WMLK is set to provide professional kickball players with competitive salaries, comprehensive health care coverage, and a share in league equity. The league's ambitious goal is to ensure that every player enjoys health care benefits by the year 2026.

Looking ahead to September 2024, the WMLK is on track to sign a total of 112 players. Notably, 85% of these players boast an impressive track record, having secured national championships, MVP’s. This influx of skilled and accomplished players adds a layer of excellence to the league, promising an exciting and competitive future for the WMLK..[1]

Format and Rules

edit

The WMLK regular season spans 11 weekends, featuring games played throughout the summer. At the halfway mark, an all-star break takes place, including the exhibition all-star game and various skills challenges. Historically utilizing a touring model with different locations each weekend, the WMLK made a significant change before the 2025 season. Teams were assigned home cities while maintaining the touring model, with each team hosting one weekend. The remaining three weekends are played at a neutral site.

Moving to the postseason, a 6-team single elimination tournament is the highlight. Notably, only two teams will miss out on the postseason action. The top-seeded team enjoys a bye into the semifinals. Quarterfinals and semifinals are consolidated, with all games played on the same day at the same location, adding an extra layer of excitement to this thrilling competition.
