My name is Will Brunner. I am currently living in Göttingen Germany where I am wrapping up a post-doc position at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics and Self Organization. I have used Wikipedia for some time, but only recently (2006) have worked up the nerve to put my hand in. I mostly stick to my areas of formal experience, with a bit of proofreading thrown in.

Professional Interests edit

I started out studying geology at the University of South Florida, and moved on to take a PhD in geophysics at the University of Colorado at Boulder. My work at Colorado was mainly on the relation between surface physics and rock mechanics. Along the way, I picked up an interest in machining, instrumentation and computer programming. I have worked in the private sector as a geophysical consultant in addition to my current job in the academy. My current research involves pattern formation in thermal convection. I am leaving in April, 2006 to take a job with a small company in California where I will help to develop a technology for using granular convection to enhance powder X-ray diffraction instruments.

Other Interests edit

When not at work, I enjoy digital photography, bicycling, travel, and making computer programs. When I live somewhere warm enough, I also enjoy sailing and hiking.
