IP-485 is an open standard communication technology that allows users of existing twisted pair networks to expand and update existing serial data buses to simultaneously transport both Ethernet and RS-485, RS-422, RS-232, Modbus serial, or other serial data on the same twisted pair wiring without running Point-to-Point CAT5/6 wiring.

Overview edit

Originally designed and developed by PCN Technology, Inc.; IP-485 is based on “Conductive Media” technology that finds efficient ways to transmit data across multiple types of conductive media. Conductive Media is defined as many types of conductive wiring and materials.

IP-485 is able to scan activity on a noisy electrical cable hundreds of times per second in order to find the most efficient frequency on which to transmit data.

Conductive Media technology creates a physical lifeline for critical communications for low latency applications while simultaneously creating virtual data busses on the same medium for other types of data.

IP-485 allows Cloud Connectivity within Private Networks for users that:

1. Want to maintain or deploy private networks for security and reliability reasons while simultaneously using IP-485 to add in TCP/IP based applications for Cloud Connectivity (Multiplexed Serial and IP on the same wire).

OR

2. Want to transform existing twisted pair in order to operate as a CAT 5 cable as a completely IP enabled network.
