I'm currently both a high school student at Marysville Getchell High School, and a college student at Everett Community College. My academics are always my first priority, with my lowest grade ever only being an A-. Many could consider myself a "hybrid" because of just how vast my interests are. Everything from rap music, to binge watching anime, to protecting the environment, reading, restoring shoes, etc. My mind and interests are always altering in some way, but I never leave behind what I've come to enjoy. I'm 16 years of age, and also happen to be Lao.

Some parts of Wikipedia that I'm most interested in is whatever is the most trending. I say this because it's always consistently changing when something is trending, even if it's meant as a meme or joke. An example of this was when Richard Sherman got the deflection against the 49ers in the NFC Championship. Someone immediately stated that Richard Sherman was the "owner" of that team. Maybe it wasn't the most accurate information, but it certainly was the funniest thing I've seen. Subjects I could see myself writing about includes many things in fashion, sports, and electronics. These three topics are all things I'm interested in, and for that reason will give me some sort of drive to get the research accomplished.

Article Critique

edit

The song Award Tour by A Tribe Called Quest (or ATCQ for short) has been one of my favorite songs for years, with many others from ATCQ being in my favorites. I know that they have been a very inspirational group for the hip-hop genre, with many people saying they’re one of the greatest rap groups of all time. With that in mind, I feel that it's only right for one of their most popular songs to have the most reliable Wikipedia page possible. I visited the Award Tour page on Wikipedia, and found three aspects of it worth commenting on: its lack of citations, irrelevant sentences, and its grammatical errors.

Citations

edit

On this page, there are only three citations total throughout the entire page. I feel that their could be more sources used to better increase the credibility of the page, such as having a source explaining why the song was such a hit within the United States and overseas.

Structure/Completeness

edit

On this page, their are a few sentences that could be deemed as somewhat “irrelevant” or useless. This would include “ In addition, one line in the second verse mentions two Major League Baseball teams, the Atlanta Braves and New York Yankees” and “Filmed in the perspective of a painting, it featured Q-Tip and Phife Dawg rapping in New York City whilst De La Soul member Trugoy sings the chorus”. The way these sentences are added to the page is somewhat random, but could be more relevant if further explained, such as explaining why they chose to film in that certain perspective.

Grammar/Voice

edit

Their are only three grammatical errors I could find on the page. Two of which were forgetting to capitalize a word and falsely capitalizing a word. The last error I discovered was trying to make two word into one. These are very easy fixes that I was able to complete to better overall the page to the general public.

Summary

edit

When giving this page a grade of excellence, I would give it a B+. It does state useful information and gives a good description of the song. However, with a few extra sentences to clarify certain aspects of it, having more citations, and a few changes to the grammar; this page could easily be an A.

(Sidenote: made changes to the grammar errors within the page to improve it as part of the assignment)
