History

edit

In 1948, John F. Kennedy Elementary School was built and given their assigned school I.D. This school has given children the ability to make new friends, enjoy a great learning possibility, and kids gathered happiness throughout the amount of years they were enrolled. This elementary school is located within a good environment. The hard-working community and willing adults that lived in the neighborhood helped this school operate at its best. Although, this school had an impact on kids lives and on families, little has been written about it. In 2007, Southfield Public Schools decided that it would be best that they close the school down. Because there was nothing nearby residents could do, their kids were forced to be enrolled into a further location.

Organizations and Programs

edit

The Souhfield school district offers a comprehnsive program from preschool through adult education. However, within Kennedy Elementary School, fourth and fifth graders(upperclassmen) were elegible to be more enthusiased within the school. Different committees and clubs were open to them. Service squad for example, is a committee where fourth and fifth graders helped the lower classmen to walk the halls quietly, be respectful toward elders and become more socially active. Student Counsel is a committee that allows all students in the school to buy different school supplies, little toys and other trinkets for their desktops. Safety patrol is a group of students that help crossing guards to watch the kids as they walk safely to their destination. Reading buddies are fifth graders that were assigned to one first grader to help them learn how to read and comprehend different types of books. Everything at Kennedy Elementary School was done in order and out of love. Also, parent involvement and volunteering is very well shown in this school. Parents have a huge impact in the Southfield committee. All Southfield schools rely on parental involvement and encourages it very much. The education level of Southfield and Lathrup Village[6] residents are above the national community average. Residents of this community value a strong public school system.[7]
