Initial Survey

edit

Important Note: This survey is intended to be taken without any use of onwiki links or guidelines/policies. Only use your current knowledge. I want to see how much you know; I'm not testing you. Please answer honestly and to the best of your ability so I can best accustom the rest of the CVUA course to your strengths.

  • How confident do you feel about anti-vandalism?
    • A: I feel 50/50. I think I know some stuff but not all of it.
  • What is a good faith edit?
    • A: When someone tries to change something for the good but doesn’t realize it is incorrect or poorly made.
  • What is vandalism?
    • A: when someone purposely changes something so that it is wrong, inappropriate, or looks bad.
  • How could one distinguish between good faith and vandalism?
    • A: You can either talk to the person, look at what they made and how factual/correct it is, and also see if it makes references to something else.
  • When should you revert an edit?
    • A: When it is a good faith edit and vandalism.
  • What is sockpuppetry?
    • A: Faking that it is a good faith edit.
      • Sockpuppetry is using multiple accounts abusively. Vermont (talk)
  • What should you do if you encounter a sockpuppet?
    • A: You should give them a warning.
  • If you notice an account is vandalizing on multiple wikis, what do you do?
    • A: The should have their account banned.
      • Accounts vandalizing on multiple wikis should be reported to meta:SRG to be locked- meaning they cannot login, or edit on any wiki. Vermont (talk)
  • What is the difference between how you should treat edits from an IP editor and from a registered user?
    • A: The IP editor should have a more severe punishment.
      • IP editors and accounts should be treated the same as accounts, except IP's can be shared by multiple users, so it should not be assumed that past edits from an IP are the same person. Vermont (talk)
  • What is ORES?
  • If you see a threat of harm, what do you do?
    • A: Remove the edit and suspend the account.
  • If you see a copyright violation, what do you do?
  • If you see personal details or doxxing, what do you do?
    • A: immediately revert the edit and give a ban to the person who wrote it. Try to warn the victim.
      • Don't inform the victim publicly; it will draw unnecessary attention to it. Revert the edit, and request oversight. Vermont (talk)
  • If you see personal attacks on a BLP, what do you do?
    • A: revert it and they receive a ban
      • Revert it, and warn the user. Depending on the severity, you may want to report to WP:AIV. Vermont (talk)
  • If you see grossly insulting, degrading, or offensive content, what do you do?
    • A: immediate ban
  • What is metawiki?
  • What is mediawiki?
    • A: a chat forum for people
  • What is the Wikimedia Commons?
  • What copyright is text on Wikipedia licensed under?
  • What can rollbackers do?
    • A: revert the edit
  • What are a few of the more important things admins can do?
    • A: they can give warnings, issue bans/suspensions, contact Wikipedia
      • Anyone can give warnings or contact Wikipedia. Administrators can block users (not ban, those are done by community consensus after a discussion). Vermont (talk)
  • What is a steward, and what do they do?
    • A: they take care of certain pages
      • Stewards are highly-trusted users who can lock (basically a block on all wikis, prevents someone from logging in) accounts and do other important tasks. See meta:Stewards. Vermont (talk)
  • If you have questions about anything, where can you go for help?
  • Is this survey too long? Any suggestions?
    • A: it is a good size. I dont have any suggestions due to me not knowing much
  • Do you use IRC?
    • A: no. I do not know what that is.
