I am a second-semester senior at Rice University studying Chemical Engineering and Poverty, Justice, and Human Capabilities. I am interested in social impact work - specifically gender inequality in higher education. Next year, I will be moving to Boston in order to work at a firm doing social impact consulting.

Spring 2017 edit

Proposal edit

I plan to rename the article to "Gender-Based Violence in Peru" and focus on how this can manifest itself in different ways and through different mediums. Additionally, I plan to include prevention mechanisms that are being employed. My full proposal can be found here.

Topic edit

Domestic Violence in Peru

I am also interested in editing the ‘Domestic Violence in Peru’ article. Currently, it focuses very briefly on the policy aspects of domestic violence, ignoring non-profit’s initiatives or academic studies that have been done on the topic.

The article is currently rated as Start-class, which means it can use a lot of improvement. Redoing the structure of the article to reflect the complex history that Peru has had with domestic and sexual violence (especially in indigenous populations) is incredibly important to make the article as substantive as possible.

Ultimately, this article needs to recognize that there are different forms of gender-based violence. Therefore, I may even change the title of it, and include subsections that expand on different forms of gender-based violence.

Fall 2016 edit

Proposal edit

I plan to update the "Sex Education in India" article with the changes outlined here. In summary, my plan is to split this article into three sections: Sex Education for Adolescents, Family Planning for Adults, and HIV/AIDS Prevention Education. Additionally, I plan to compare and contrast the efficacy of these types of education, while also exploring any cultural opposition.

Topic edit

Sex Education in India

The second topic that I am interested in editing is Sex Education in India. I would be adding to the current Wikipedia page that has no rating. The current Wikipedia page only cursorily covers the nature of sex education in India and doesn’t cover the efforts being undertaken by non-profits to educate the community about things like HIV. Additionally, it doesn’t cover the implications or effects of sex education in India and how those manifest themselves differently depending on the caste system.
