Frode Birkeland (born 25 January 1972 in Bergen) is a Norwegian former footballer. During his playing career, he played for Minde, Varegg, Sogndal, Lyngbø, Åsane, Eik-Tønsberg, Lyn, Lillestrøm and Ham-Kam before he finished his playing career in the 1. divisjon with Kongsvinger in 2005.

He was in 2001 on a trial with the English club Sheffield United, but did not get a contract as the manager Neil Warnock claimed his playing style was too similar as the team's current striker Paul Peschisolido. Birkeland was coach at Lillestrøm's recruitment team to Lillestrom before he became head coach of Drøbak-Frogn in October 2009 .

After three years in the 3. divisjon, Drøbak-Frogn won promotion in the 2011 season. Birkeland resigned after the successful season, as disagreed with the club on the long-term plans. The Sports director of Drøbak-Frogn, Knut Norem, resigned for the same reason halfway into the 2012 season.
