LiveInternet is a Russian Web portal and social networking site. LiveInternet was a project created in 2003 under the management of German Klimenko. The project originally functioned as a website rating service on rax.ru, and an online blogging community on li.ru. Later on, the project was centralized under liveinternet.ru. Among those who use the service, its most popular features are its free e-mail and its blogging community.

The name LiveInternet is a back formation of the abbreviation li.ru, the domain on which the blogs were originally hosted.

Blogging community edit

LiveInternet is one of the most widespread Russian blogging platforms, giving every user of the site the capability of creating their own online blog, viewing and interacting with other online bloggers, and receiving status updates from other users' blogs.

The service presents the following capabilities:

  • Adding new posts to blogs, either through the Web interface or through e-mail or SMS.
  • Adding comments to other blogs on the LiveInternet site and other communities using OpenID.
  • Adding images, polls, and other forms of media to blogs, uploading various types of files, using up to 12 avatars.
  • Reading updates from selected blogs and other RSS feeds, through a friends list, e-mail subscription, or other clients.
  • Participating in existing networks or creating additional ones.
  • Customizing the overall look of one's blog.
  • Altering the privacy settings that may be applied to individual blog posts, in addition to the blog as a whole.
  • Creating a system of inter-blog navigation between blog posts, using categories, calendars, search engines, and tags that categorize one interests.
  • Using an integrated system of photo albums, video and audio files, forums, personals, and private messages between users. A webcam may also be attached to one's blog.
  • Allowing a wide freedom of speech based on the rules of the site, and an ability to contact the developers of the site with necessary questions.

E-mail service at li.ru edit

The e-mail service was created with the goal of allowing users to have a mailbox with a short web address. The mailboxes may be used for the receival of notifications from blog subscriptions. The service contains an anti-spam filter, and each user is allotted 7260MB of space. E-mail addresses are registered using the li.ru domain.

Personals edit

Non-registered users have the capability to view personal ads of other users using an integrated service that filters users by criteria. After one registers for the LiveInternet services, full profile information will become available, as well as the capability to interact with that user using the mail service.

In addition, upon registration, users gain the ability to create their own ad and upload their own set of photos. When an ad is created, it is submitted to the moderating team, where it is either approved or rejected. In the case of rejection, the moderators will notify the user with the reason of rejection.

LiveInternet may also be accessed through the shortened URL li.ru, which contains a link to the full site. This is convenient for users accessing the site from mobile phones, as the shortened address is easier and more convenient to type.
