History

edit

Before independence in 1949, Valansten was roughly divided into 5 regions.

  • The Eastern Peninsula, which is now divided between Kötenberg, Ostenplitz, and most of Elschengen.
  • The Northern Coast, which is now divided between Geleghein, The Northern Archipelago, and some of Elschengen.
  • The Central Area, which is now divided between Mittelpleis and Togen.
  • The Southern Area, which is now divided between East Hochendrotten (except for Eitensfeld), West Hochendrotten, and the special city of Droden.
  • The Southeastern Islands, which now the province of Dorfstein and the island of Eitensfeld in East Hochendrotten.

After independence, Valansten is divided into 6 Provinces and the special city of Kötenberg

  • Dorfstein
  • Elschengen
  • Geleghein
  • Hochendrotten
  • Mittelpleis
  • Togen

On April 24 1985, Chancellor Maria Lesner established 2 new special provinces and a territory

  • West Hochendrotten, which was created from parts of Hochendrotten West of the Blisser river. The remaining part of Hochendrotten was renamed to East Hochendrotten. This province was created to allow for more freedom for native Vaulemans.
  • Ostenplitz, which was created out of the southeasternmost parts of Elschengen. This province was created due to the large French population in the area.
  • Northern Archipelago Territory, which was formed out of parts of Geleghein and Elschengen in the northern archipelago.

The special city of Droden was created on 31 December 1999 out of the Droden metropolitan area in East Hochendrotten to allow for looser trade regulations.

On 12 August 2022, Chancellor Tobias Abenmeier reformed the Northern Archipelago into a special province to allow for more economic growth and tourism.

Politics

edit

The subdivisions each have representation in the Bundesrat. A subdivision has 2 seats if their population is less than 300.000 people, 3 seats if their population is between 300.000-700.000 people, and 4 seats if their population is over 700.000 people.

Locally, a subdivision has a legislature, normally a Bürgerschaft or a Landtag. However, West Hochendrotten has the Vauleman Council due to the large population of native Vaulemans. Each province has a Minister-President as their head of state and government, except for West Hochendrotten which has a great chief. Each Special City has a Mayor as head of state and government. Subdivision usually have elections every 2-4 years to elect representatives for their legislature and to elect their head of state and government.
