Income Tax Mission Mode Project
Income Tax is a Mission Mode Project under the National e-Governance Plan of the Government of India [1] . It is being implemented by the Income Tax Department [2] Government of India.
Services
editUnder this Project, the Income Tax Department has provided a range of services to the income tax payers, such as online filing of taxes and online registration, and online submission of rectification requests, online search for PAN and TAN [3]. As on March 31, 2011, a total of over 91 lakh(i.e. 9.1 million) e-filings were done for FY 2010-11 [4] Under this project, Centralized Processing Centres(CPCs) are also being set up at various locations[5] [6] including Bengaluru, Pune and Maneasar [7] for processing the e-Filing returns [8] [9]. The award-winning Bengaluru CPC has already been set up and a Call Centre has been also set up along with the Call Centre for answering customer queries.

editApart from the saving of hours of waiting time for an individual tax payer, the e-filing service also saves a large amount of paper [10]. The project also results in convenient, anytime, anywhere filing for customers. [11]
