Arrah Lee Gaul - Member of the "Philadelphia Ten" group of women artists.

Arrah Lee Gaul, granddaughter of the late John Parkinson Gaul, was born in 1883 in the city of Philadelphia. At the age of 23, Ms. Gaul entered the Philadelphia College of Design for Women in 1907 and for the next four years attended that college on a scholarship. Arrah Gaul was quoted in an interview in 1964 as indicating that her interest in art began when she was just eight years old so it is no wonder that later in her life she would participate at a fundamental level in the development of an early womens art movement.
