UNITED CITIES GAS COMPANY AND SUBSIDIARIES

The company was incorporated in 1932 when Arthur K. Lee and his associates acquired the Utilities Gas and Electric Company, which began operations throughout various cities across America in 1930. The company was named UNITED CITIES UTILITIES COMPANY (UCU). The main office, as it was called, was located at Room 938, Merchandise Mart, Chicage 54, Illinois, SUperior 7-5051. The UCU Family consisted of a total of about 180 regular employees, of whom twenty were employed in the main office in Chicago, and subsidiaries.

Customers were being served by Subsidiaries of UCU in the following locations:

  • Central Wisconsin Gas Company in Sparta, Tomah and Waupaca, WI.
  • Southeastern Illinois Gas Company in Vandalia, Harrisburg, Eldorado and Metropolis, IL.
  • Tennessee Gas Company in Union City, Columbia, Shelbyville, Lynchburg, Murfreesboro, Morristown, Maryville, TN.
  • Carolina Central Gas Company in Hendersonville, NC.
  • South Carolina Gas Company in Gaffney, SC.
  • Georgia Gas Company in Gainesville, GA.
  • B.V. Pipeline Company in Harrisburg and Eldorado, IL.
  • V-M Pipeline Company in Vandalia and Metropolis, IL.
  • Tennessee Gas Pipeline Company in Murfreesboro, TN.
  • Gaffney Pipeline Company in Gaffney, SC.
  • Gas Constructioneering Company in Murfreesboro, TN.
  • Metrogas, Inc. in Chicago, IL. metrogas was an affiliate, but not a subsidiary, which sold liquified petroleum gas in and around the above listed cities.
