This userbox allows users to indicate that they either watch or have taken part in the long-running British quiz show University Challenge, and places them in the category "Category:Wikipedians who like University Challenge".

The template takes two main optional parameters, "image" and "status":

  • Image
    • "image=pax": a photograph of the quizmaster Jeremy Paxman is displayed.
    • "image=shape": a rhombicuboctahedron drawn by Leonardo da Vinci published in 1509 is displayed.
    • No parameter: the letters "UC" are displayed.
  • Status
    • "status=member": if the parameter "status" is given the value "member", the name of a university and a year must also be provided, as shown in the table below. The university name is wikilinked, so it should be stated as it appears in its Wikipedia article title. If necessary, the parameter and value "the=on" can be added to display the word "the". The userbox displays "This user took part in University Challenge for [the] [name of university] in [year]".
    • "status=winner": if "status=winner", the name of a university and a year must also be provided, and "the=on" included to display the word "the" if required. The userbox displays "This user was a member of [the] [name of university]'s winning team in University Challenge in [year]".
    • "status=starter": the userbox displays "And here's this user's starter for ten...".
    • No parameter: the userbox displays "This user watches University Challenge".
