Oneheke is a small village in the Northern part of Namibia, in Omusati region, Okalongo circuit, close to the borders between Namibia and Angola.The village has a population of approximately 3000, of which 2 about 2000 are women and 1000 are men.Oneheke is mainly occupied by Ovakwanyama and Ovambadja but the majority is Ovambadja.

The village was actually named Oneheke because it is in a place where the soil is mainly sand soil. The residents of Oneheke depend domestic work for food, cultivating Mahangu and breeding domestic animals like cattle and goats for their family consumption.Oneheke village is also 'the roots' for the late Kornelius Mwetupunga Shelungu Who was the king of the Ovakwanyama traditional authority after the late former king Mandume Memufayo [1] [2]

Development in Oneheke

Despite the fact that the Oneheke village had lack of development and poor quality education, the headman Mr Absalom Kaukolelwa tried hard indeed to bring his village to the position where it is today.There are many schools and hospitals that every resident has access to and when it comes to sanitation, it is just of high quality. [3]

Natural wealth in Oneheke

There is a pond called Shaneheke, where the domesticated animals drink water.The pond also gets filled by water and and it is where the residents catch fish and frogs during the rainy season.THere are also many trees like Marura and Palm in Shaneheke and residents go there to collect fruits. The villagers also go to Shaneheke to collect firewood from oid and collapsed trees. [4]
