Syntax

Usage

This template tags an article for copy editing and should be added at the top of the article page. It may also be added to newly-translated pages that require copy editing, in order to provide an explanation to readers who are not yet familiar with Wikipedia:Translation, but are able to improve the translator's work.

Optional parameters

• This template takes an optional parameter that replaces the word "article" in the displayed message with arbitrary text. For example, {{Copy edit|section}} displays "This section needs copy editing."
• This template takes the optional parameter |for= (a.k.a. |reason=) which can be used to explain what issues need to be addressed, e.g. |for=consistent spelling. The default value is "grammar, style, cohesion, tone, or spelling".
• This template takes the optional parameter |date=, with the format |date=June 2024. An expedient way to enter it is |subst:{{DATE}} instead of using |date= directly.
• This template will auto-categorise tagged articles into Category:Wikipedia articles needing copy edit, or a dated subcategory thereof. However, if the optional parameter and value |categories=no is set, the template will not categorise the page.
• This template takes an optional parameter, original_title, that replaces the words "a Wikipedia article" in the displayed message with the name of that article. In other words, original_title is the title of the article in its original language. For example, {{Copy edit|Sombrero}} displays "."
• This template takes an optional parameter original_language_code, that replaces the words "another language" the language the original article was written in, via the language's ISO 639-1 code, for example, ko for Korean, or es for Spanish. In other words, original_language_code is the ISO 639-1 code that indicates the language the original article was written in. For example, {{Copy edit|es}} displays "."

The page Bremen City Hall was translated from Bremer Rathaus in the German Wikipedia.
