River City Repertory Theatre located in Shreveport, Louisiana, is a professional theatre company that blends the best of local, regional, and national stage actors through its membership in Actors' Equity. The company's goal is to foster the crafts of theatre in Shreveport, Bossier City, and Northwest Louisiana. The Rep attracts actors, directors and designers who are serious about the highest level of theatrical production.

River City Repertory Theatre has featured the talents of nationally renowned actors such as Tony Award winner Donna McKechnie and Academy Award nominee Margaret Avery, who were accompanied on stage by outstanding local and regional actors. Such actors make an important statement about the high degree of acting and professional theatre pursued by River City Repertory Theatre.

The hallmark of River City Repertory Theatre is providing a solid, fulfilling theatre experience that satisfies actors, designers, directors and audiences and builds a vibrant community of theatre professionals for Shreveport, Bossier City, and Northwest Louisiana.

River City Repertory Theatre made history when it opened Lillian Hellman's THE LITTLE FOXES on June 29 2006, becoming the first Actors' Equity sanctioned, professional theatre company in the history of the Shreveport-Bossier area. As a matter of record, The Rep also was the first professional theatre to exist in the northern part of our State!.

At present, with no theatre space to call its own, River City Repertory Theatre is staging productions at The Strand Theatre, The Scottish Rite Cathedral, The Capri Theatre or the RiverView Theatre. Strand Theatre, the area’s entertainment "jewel," is located in downtown Shreveport in the newly designated "West Edge" arts district. The beautiful, opulent theatre was built in 1924 and is the home for the many Broadway touring shows that play the area. River City Rep has used the theatre for stagings of larger musicals. The Scottish Rite Cathedral, built in 1917, offers an ornate, yet smaller more intimate venue, on its second floor level. The theatre space has proven perfect for dramas and comedies that require a closer relationship with the audience.

River City Repertory Theatre, through its membership in Actors' Equity, the national organization for theatre professionals, blends the best of local and national talent. River City Repertory Theatre is a traditionally structured, not-for-profit organization, founded by some of Shreveport's most admired and honored theatrical talents - Patric McWilliams, Anne Gremillion, Seva May, Jim Montgomery, Robert Buseick, Ruth Doreck, John Gayle, Edwin and Candace Higginbotham, Jodie Glorioso, Ashley Beckham -- and governed by a community-based board of directors.

River City Repertory Theatre opens the door to a multitude of opportunities for local students and actors who wish to pursue careers in theatre, while also featuring guest actors, directors and designers from across the nation. The best theatre practitioners from the region can now develop their art in North Louisiana, thus contributing to the state's cultural economy. By tapping into an incredibly deep talent pool, River City Repertory Theatre also benefits the growing film industry in Louisiana. Patrons can now experience the highest caliber of professional theatre - in Shreveport-Bossier Area.

River City Repertory Theatre is supported in part by a grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation & Tourism, in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council. Funding has also been provided by the National Endowment for the Arts, a Federal agency.
