Guns N' Roses

edit

Please stop reverting changes to Guns N' Roses related articles if it's official and sourced. You can't disguise the truth. --Say Headcheese!--hexaChord2 22:04, 12 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Has there been an official announcement confirming he's left? Not being on their MySpace is hardly an official, proper source. Travelling Tragition (Talk) 22:07, 12 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
The page was changed just yesterday, not proper? I know you've taken ownership to all the GnR articles [1] and since the only interesting GnR-members (Brain and Buckethead) have gone now, I shall not start a war... --Say Headcheese!--hexaChord2 22:19, 12 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

So an officially run MySpace is not "official" enough? The MySpace site lists the members. Why is your opinion more valid than an official source? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.24.8.5 (talk) 04:58, 13 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

See: [2]--Say Headcheese!--hexaChord2 11:36, 13 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Did you ever find some confirmation that he's left that band, or is your "source" still "he isn't on MySpace"? Travelling Tragition (Talk) 12:08, 13 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Who are you talking about, Brain or Finck? Brain's with Science Faxtion at the moment, Living On Another Frequency has been released two days ago. And Finck's with NIN (there were official statements by GnR & NIN about this already half a year ago). I guess they all have better plans than just sitting around and watching Axl pickin' one's nose. That should be quite clear if you have a look on the latest comments and interviews they gave. --Say Headcheese!--hexaChord2 13:05, 13 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Have either of them ever said, "I am no longer in Guns N' Roses" in their latest interviews? Because that's what is needed, not original research. And Brain being in Science Faxtion and Finck with NIN doesn't mean they've left the band; artists can perform intermittently with other artists. So unless you have a source stating they've permanently left, they should still be considered band members. Travelling Tragition (Talk) 15:56, 13 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Opened a discussion on WP:GNR since you won't listen to arguments anyways. Case closed for me, shall others overcome. --Say Headcheese!--hexaChord2 17:21, 13 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Does it matter whether there has been a press statement of Finck or Brain leaving? The most official online source Guns N Roses offers in regards to who is in the band is their MySpace. This is not an improper source according to Wiki standards. The official site lists the band members. Both their names are not on the site. There is really no debate to the issue. Can you provide an official source stating they ARE in the band? No. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.24.8.5 (talk) 07:35, 15 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Here's the latest statement regarding Robin Finck: [3] Nowhere does it state he's no longer in the band. Claiming that they suddenly disappeared from MySpace without any kind of statement isn't a good enough source; it needs an official statement. Travelling Tragition (Talk) 19:51, 16 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
The "Classic Rock Magazine" from February 2008 lists Mantia as past member, he's not listed on th MySpace and not pictured in the CD-booklet (while two other drummers are - and even Buckethead, not a member of the band for the last two years). What else do you need? Give a source for Mantia being a member! I don't care about Finck much, but this has a lot of hits... --Say Headcheese!--hexaChord2 19:44, 18 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
The last reference yo Mantia's status in the band stated he is on hiatus to be with his family, not that he has permanently left. And, if I remember correctly, he is featured in the album's booklet, on the page for "Sorry," and his drumming is on all but one song. Travelling Tragition (Talk) 14:20, 20 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
That picture on Sorry does not look like Mantia but it can't be Ferrer and Freese is even more unlikeley. Only His Imperial Strangeness himself may know. --Say Headcheese!--hexaChord2 16:50, 21 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

There is finally an official press release on the website: http://web.gunsnroses.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20081123&content_id=a1&vkey=news&fext=.jsp It lists Reed, Ferrer, Fortus and, Bumblefoot only. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.138.214.100 (talk) 01:49, 22 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Of course the page got changed again - man, what a whacky band, not even getting a website running - but there's some reactions and the full text: [4] [5] Who's still thinking they are in the band? --Say Headcheese!--hexaChord2 09:03, 22 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Man, I thought we'd finally gotten a good source for this. :-( I suggest we continue to leave it as is for the time being, until they release an article that isn't full of mistakes and gets changed every five minutes. Travelling Tragition (Talk) 14:51, 22 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Why did I know for sure that you again won't accept it? Are you still waiting for a personal call by Axl himself? --Say Headcheese!--hexaChord2 15:54, 22 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Chinese Democracy Reviews

edit

Travelling Tragition, can you please site anything in Wikipedia:ALBUM#Professional_reviews or WikiProject Albums that would cause you to continually remove Orange Karma's professional music reviews of Guns N' Roses' "Chinese Democracy" album from the albums wiki page? It appears you are biased towards the particular company, review or reviewer. Please explain. Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.99.122.85 (talk) 18:38, 26 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Just a reminder: Orange Karma on WP - 153 results a.t.m. --Say Headcheese!--hexaChord2 19:08, 26 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Orange Karma is not listed at Wikipedia:ALBUM#Review_sites. Should it be added to that list. Or should I have it added to the Wikipedia link blacklist? The Real Libs-speak politely 19:24, 26 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
That's the question. Are Orange Karma reviews good enough or not? Why is the site not listed and why do some think the review should be included while others remove it? Just saying it is not listed is - ehm - a bit easy. Is it a well written review, does it add information to the article? Or is it just blabla or repetitive to reviews that were included earlier. --Say Headcheese!--hexaChord2 19:54, 26 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

You are correct that Orange Karma is not listed on Wikipedia:ALBUM#Review_sites. But neither is "The A.V. Club" or hundreds of the other review sites scattered throughout Wikipedia. Anyone could easily add another site to that list but if you read the language you are citing it says "the following is a list of some websites with reviews or links to reviews that you can use in album infoboxes". Of significant importance are the words "some" and "can" meaning at the Wiki editor's discretion. I see another user removed the review also though so I will take that as a consensus and I won't re-add the review. But in my humble opinion I think crediblemusicreviews.com (aka Orange Karma or Expert Music Reviews) probably fits the bill according to Wikipedia standards. Let me know your thoughts on adding it to the "official" list or not. They don't have a Wiki page either and I'm not sure I care enough to create one. Maybe I'll make a stub. Either way thanks for responding and explaining your actions. I feel better. 72.59.21.91 (talk) 19:43, 26 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

The best option to to just stick with the WP:ALBUM review 'whitelist' and not allow any of the others mentioned to be added. As for Orange Karma... as it has been pointed out earlier... the link appears several Wikipedia articles. If the site passes WP:WEB then eventually perhaps a consensus to allow it can be put forth at WP:MUSIC. But until then I will see about firing up an administrator bot to remove all the current "O.K." links. The Real Libs-speak politely 19:52, 26 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
One can still use the review as a reference in the article... --Say Headcheese!--hexaChord2 19:59, 26 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

We need a better long-term solution than this. There are only 20 album review sites on the white list and as I am going through these Orange Karma links there are many albums that popular media completely skipped or didn't bother to review. They also appear to have several "notable" musician's on their roster. The company's website is at www.orangekarmarecords.com and they appear to be a legitimate media company. The reviews are well-written and provide links to relevant content, downloads, etc. If you google them you will find all kinds of blogs, media sites linking to them. I think the matter needs to consider which reviews are better when the maximum ten are in there. I personally have read many of their reviews and I would hate to see them removed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.205.147.202 (talk) 20:06, 26 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

3RR

edit

Heya, on Guns N' Roses, you're well past WP:3RR for the day. I took a look at what's being reverted, and though it may be inappropriate, it's not vandalism. See WP:VANDAL#NOT. If there are further changes that you disagree with over the next 24 hours, please avoid the "revert" button? You can change text, re-insert sources, etc., but no more reverts for awhile please? Thanks. --Elonka 20:23, 24 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sure. Looking back, I certainly shouldn't have used the revert button like that. It's just that, in my edit summaries, I've repeatedly pointed out the exact pages which discourage the use of the sources being used, and that obviously becomes frustrating when you're just being completely ignored like I was being. Travelling Tragition (Talk) 20:28, 24 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
I hear you. :) And I've warned the other editor too, and added the page to my watchlist. I generally don't like to protect pages, because then that keeps everyone from editing. And I don't want to block established editors on Xmas, even though it might be good for some of them to get away from the computer for awhile, heh. In any case, thanks for understanding, and enjoy the holiday, --Elonka 20:33, 24 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

At the moment, the portal has 7 selected articles (Joe Strummer, Mick Jones, London Calling, Paul Simonon, Topper Headon, Rock the Casbah, and Should I Stay or Should I Go), some other articles are still in development and more will come in the future, 7 albums (London Calling, Combat Rock, Sandinista!, The Clash, Give 'Em Enough Rope, Super Black Market Clash, and Cut the Crap), 14 pictures (all covered by a free license; for the full list please check out this page), and 50 hooks for the DYK section (full list here). There are also sections on categories, topics, wikiproject, related portals, associated wikimedia, and more. Take a look when you have a second.
