Action figure does not have a long history compared to painting and sculpture. However, it does changed how people think about art. It gives art a whole new form to extend it's possibility. Barbie dolls and G.I joe are two most famous type of action figures in the action figure history. In 1959, Mattel introduced Barbie doll named after the CEO Ruth Handler's daughter. Barbie was an instant and eternal hit with girls. The success of Barbie laid a good foundation of action figure industry. [source: Mattel].[1] Another famous name in the action figure history is G.I.Joe, in 1964, aimed the Cold War, Hasbro introduced a new type of toy. The figure was named G.I. Joe after a ordinary soldiers in World War II. The figure stands in 11 1/2-inch as a 1:6 scale male figure who wore uniforms representing the U.S. military and had 21 moving parts. Hasbro branded it an “action figure” to distinguish it from dolls and created a variety of vehicles, equipment, and play sets to accompany it.[2]
