Barbadian recording artist Rihanna has released eight studio albums, three compilation albums, two remix albums, one album reissue and three extended plays. Since the beginning of her career in 2005, she has sold over 50 million albums worldwide and is one of the best-selling artists of all time.[1]

Rihanna's debut studio album, Music of the Sun, was released in August 2005 by Def Jam and SRP Records.[2] It reached number seven on the Canadian Albums Chart and number 10 on the US Billboard 200 chart; it was certified platinum by Music Canada (MC) and gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The next year, Rihanna released her sophomore studio album, A Girl like Me (2006);[3] it became her first number one album in Canada and was later certified double platinum by MC. The album peaked at number five on the Billboard 200 chart and was certified double platinum by the RIAA. A Girl like Me also became Rihanna's first top-five album in the United Kingdom, peaking at number five on the albums chart; it was later also certified double platinum by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI).

The singer's third studio album Good Girl Gone Bad was released in May 2007. Musically, it represents departure from the Caribbean sound present on her previous two releases and it's a primarily a dance-pop[4] and pop/R&B album.[5] It reached number one on the albums charts in Canada, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. In the latter it was certified six-times platinum and sold over 1.9 copies in the country alone. The album peaked at number two in the United States and was also certified six-times platinum. It has sold over nine million copies worldwide and it's Rihanna's commercially most successful album to date. The following year it was reissued under the title, Good Girl Gone Bad: Reloaded (2008) while in early 2009, Rihanna released her first remix album, Good Girl Gone Bad: The Remixes.

Rated R, Rihanna's fourth studio album, was released in November 2009. It peaked at number four on the Billboard 200 chart and became her fourth top-five album in the United States. As of November 2010, it has sold over three million copies worldwide. The singer released her fifth studio album Loud in late 2010. It reached number one on the albums charts in Canada, Ireland, Switzerland and the United Kingdom and sold over 8 million copies worldwide. In the United States, Loud peaked at number three and was later certified triple-platinum by the RIAA; it has sold over 1.8 million copies in the country. Talk That Talk, Rihanna's sixth studio album was released in November 2011 and peaked at number one in New Zealand, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. It was certified triple platinum by the BPI and the RIAA.

In November 2012, the singer released her seventh studio album, Unapologetic. It became her first album to debut and peak at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart; it also peaked atop the albums charts in Canada, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. As of March 2015, Unapologetic sold over 4 million copies worldwide. After four years music hiatus, in January 2016, Rihanna's eighth studio album, Anti, was released through Westbury Road and Roc Nation. It became her fifth and second number one album in Canada and the United States respectively. It was certified triple platinum by the RIAA denoting shipments of over three million album-equivalent units.
