Let's start here. Please ask your questions below, you may add talkback on my talk. You may create separate sections for new questions. --Tito Dutta (talk) 15:23, 5 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Sample question edit

Looks like we both went and created subpages together - let's use this one - I will figure out how to delete the other one and go back and clean it up. Amiwikieditor (talk) 15:26, 5 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Will go and learn the talkback template.
  • I can delete the page. Do you have Twinkle enabled? If not enable it in preferences>>gadgets. Then go to someone's talkpage and click on TW>>Talkback. --Tito Dutta (talk) 15:30, 5 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
Done - enabled Twinkle - yeah, makes it simple. Also went through the Talkback documentation - I think I get now how it works. Also, yeah, I think you can delete that other page and I can't, so thanks for that. Amiwikieditor (talk) 15:38, 5 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
  • Yes, looks good. You can try Hotcat, navigation popup and other gadgets. --Tito Dutta (talk) 15:50, 5 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Question on alignment of numerical data in tables edit

Hey Tito - I haven't been able to find any information about whether numbers should be right aligned, left aligned, or center aligned in a table. Longer numbers look better when they are right aligned, I think, but I haven't found any guidance on Wikipedia on what the best practices are. Amiwikieditor (talk) 15:28, 5 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

  • I don't think it is clearly mentioned but you can check MOS:TABLE. Yes, for longer numbers, right-aligning may look good. I have seen usage of centre-aligning too. --Tito Dutta (talk) 15:34, 5 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I have read that article - can't find alignment guidance on it. Anyway, I will keep looking too. Amiwikieditor (talk) 15:39, 5 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Signing on Talk pages edit

So, is there a way to auto-insert the four tilde shortcut to sign your messages? I keep forgetting to do it. Amiwikieditor (talk) 15:40, 5 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

  • There is an icon on toolbar, see WP:~. However I find it easier to type manually, it soon may become easier. I use left hand thumb-shift and index finger-tilde combo. --Tito Dutta (talk) 15:50, 5 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
  • And you can try extension like paste email or paste email plus, but I don't use these or macro to sign. --Tito Dutta (talk) 15:52, 5 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Behavior and Etiquette Discussion edit

Content Discussion edit

I have been making a lot of changes to the content of one page: Demographics of India. These are both formatting changes and actual content changes (like changing data based on the linked sources, actually changing the sources themselves to more correct ones, and also removing content not relevant to the page or the article). Now, while I have been doing all these (and mentioning these things on the talk pages also), I have seen no response or review comments from anyone.

Which makes me ask, am I doing this right?

If you get some time, can you perhaps take a look at the history of this page and see if what I have done makes sense. Thanks. Amiwikieditor (talk) 08:12, 20 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

  • I checked a few of your edits and those look good to me. The article has 176 watchers, if no one is reverting your edits, it is actually a good sign. --Tito Dutta (talk) 08:23, 20 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
Ok cool - I also learned how to use "Page Info" through that response. Thanks for your help. One of my next projects will be (when I get the time, this stuff is hard and time consuming) will be to fix some of the templates that are available for the India related articles. Also, let me know if there are things you are working on where I can maybe lend a hand whenever I can. Thanks again. Amiwikieditor (talk) 06:11, 21 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
  • Ya, in an article the "Page info" link will be in the left sidebar. You may check all other links.
I am doing various works now, I am spending time to perform admin tasks such as page deleting, protecting. I am also working on WCI reimbursement to Wikipedians, where we're slightly behind schedule. There are a few other tasks. I'll write a couple of articles Shanku Maharaj, Ramyanai Bikshya (spellings need to be checked), when I'll get some time. --Tito Dutta (talk) 07:37, 21 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
  • wow, that is a lot of work. I have no clue what WCI reimbursement means. And I think I am very far away from writing my own articles. But one day, for sure. Amiwikieditor (talk) 16:36, 23 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Formatting query

In this section and page Demographics_of_India#Sample_Registration_System, there is a table and to the right of it there is a map (image). When my browser is maximized, it looks like this. But if I make my window any smaller, the table moves below the image leaving a blank space, and then it looks like this. Is there anyway to prevent this from happening? Or would it be better to have the map images inline with the tables so that they are always one after another and never side-by-side.

I know this is likely a minor thing that I am fretting over, but that blank space looks horrible.

Let me know whenever you get the time. Thanks. Amiwikieditor (talk) 16:36, 23 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

  • This is all about screen resolution. Use this to find how a page looks in different devices and resolutions. You can try changing (instructing) a table width such as 100% or 80%, but very large tables won't look good there.

Another One

This change to this page. I don't know whether this section blanking should be reverted or the editor is right to make these changes.

Amiwikieditor (talk) 19:16, 23 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

  • If it was a blanking without edit summary, you could have reverted it if according to you there was no reason to delete it. However the editor added an edit summary, now it is upto you whether you'll revert it or now. The whole point here is, in my opinion, do you agree with his statement, if not, revert it, adding an edit summary, or discuss in talk. --Tito Dutta (talk) 15:28, 24 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
