User:Tito Dutta/Image changing child's play

There is a trend specially in Wikiproject India's celebrity related (read "actors" and "actresses") articles— editors keep on changing images of the articles again and again. (Not) surprisingly in most of the cases the images they prefer are their own uploads.

No hard work edit

If we are thinking they work hard to get such images, we are mistaken. They collect new images from free site like Bollywood Hungama where anyone, even you, can go and get "newer" image.

Reason of such edits edit

In most of the cases the reason of such disruptive edits are nothing but featuring one's own upload at their favourite actor's/actress's Wikipedia article. Some of them try to boast to their friends/(girl/boy)friends that "this" Wikipedia article with "1 million" views have their image at the top. So, "1 million" people see their works every month.

Identify these edits edit

These "Image changing child's play" will have one or more or all of the following features—

Upload pattern edit

Image collected from free site like Bollywood Hungama.

Image replace pattern edit

Editors will not wait for their uploads getting passed in review (Bollywood Hungama images are reviewed at Commons). They will rush to Wikipedia and replace the image within few microseconds.

Edit pattern edit

Their edits will have weird edit summary like the new image is better, latest image Or there will not be any edit summary at all.

What is the problem? edit

Now you may ask what is the problem in such edits? The answer is simple: there is not any discipline or process in such edits. No one discusses, the edits are made on WP:ILIKEIT and WP:IDONTLIKEIT basis. As a result, infobox images get changed again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again. . . . . .

Reversions edit

I and some other editors (I don't have the correct list) will revert such edits everytime we'll find. Now if you are the uploader/editor, you have two options—

  1. Discuss: Open a discussion (some/any)where and start discussing.
  2. Report: Go and directly report against us anywhere you want. Start with WT:INB, then proceed to WP:ANI.
