Med Games medal tables edit

1951 Alexandria edit

Official 1951 report count lists 92–90–86
  • But there were only 91 events
  • No silver events: 1 (rowing), 1 (gymnastics) 91–2= 89 silvers
  • No bronze events: 2 (rowing), 1 (gymnastics), 3 (weightlifting), 1 (shooting) 91–7 = 84 bronzes
  • Double bronze events: 1 (fencing) 84+1 = 85 bronzes
  • Official count lists 1-1-1 extra medals unaccounted for in events list (gold for EGY, silver for ITA, bronze for LBN)
  • Boxing section lists nine categories out of 10 normally used (it's missing the Featherweight 57 kg category) so maybe it's possible that the tally is correct but the event listing isn't
  • 1952 Olympics in 57 kg featured Sergio Caprari (ITA) and Salah El-Din Fatih (EGY) - possibly they boxed in Alexandria?
  • In Boxing 54 kg event OR mistakenly lists silver-winning Veniero Innocenti (ITA) as Egyptian.
  • Italian Olympic Committee has stats up to 2005, says Italy's tally was 29–24–17 (70) and lists 1951 Games totals as 104–97–96 (297):
    • In boxing at 1951 Games it lists 5–3–1 (9) medals for Italy, as opposed to 5–1–1 in the official report (2 silvers unaccounted for)
    • In gymnastics it lists 3–5–6 (14) medals for Italy, as opposed to 2–4–1 in the official report (1 gold, 1 silver, 5 bronzes unaccounted for) - however, in the list of gold medalists it only lists Guido Figone and his two golds (corroborated by OR)
    • In rowing it lists 5–1–0 (6) medals for Italy, vs 4–1–0 (5) in OR (1 gold unaccounted for). Official report lists only 5 events - one is missing silver and bronze, one is missing bronze. Howver, in lists of gold medalists only lists athletes for four events (double sculls, coxed pairs, coxed fours, eights)
  • French Olympic Committee says France won 26 golds, "two less than Italy"
  • Italian OC lists fencer Roberto Ferrari as winning gold in individual sabre event (official report says he won bronze) - although Italian IOC has loads of mistakes
  • Boxing detailed data including missing 57 kg category

1955 Barcelona edit

Official 1955 report count lists 102–102–104
  • There were 102 events
  • No bronze medal events: 2 (rowing) 102–2 = 100
  • Double bronze events: 4 (gymnastics) 100+4 = 104
  • Golds and silvers are all accounted for; bronze count lists FRA 31, ITA 22, but events sum gives FRA 30, ITA 23, so one bronze seems to be attributed incorrectly)
  • Italian Olympic Committee lists totals as 113–115–120 vs 102–102–104 (OR), so 40 more medals.

1959 Beirut edit

Official Report tally counts 106–106–104
  • No bronze events = 1 in athletics (20 km walk), 2 in boxing (57 kg, +81 kg), 1 in weightlifting (+90 kg) = 106–4 = 102 bronzes
  • Double bronze events = 2 in gymnastics (saut de cheval, parallel bars) = 102+2 = 104 bronzes

1963 medal table (corrected) edit

Official 1963 reports count 65–65–75 (65 events), without athletics (21 events) + rowing (7 events) = 93 events total
  • No bronze event: 2 in rowing, 1 in boxing (93–3 = 90)
  • Double bronze events: 9 events in boxing, 2 in tennis (90+11 = 101)
  • Syria and Egypt formed the short-lived United Arab Republic (UAR) in 1958–61. In 1959 the unified country sent a team. But in 1961 Syria (SYR) seceded and in 1963 Games it sent its own team competing as Syria. Egyptian athletes continued to compete as UAR in 1963 and thereafter until their country was officially renamed back to Egypt in 1971. Medals won by the 1963 UAR team are retroactively attributed to Egypt (EGY) in official reports.

Official report's count (86 events) without weightlifting (7 events) = 93 events total
  • One event (football) had two gold medals, no silver = 94 golds, 92 silvers
  • Double bronze events: 10 events in boxing = 93+10 = 103 bronzes

1971 Izmir edit

Official tally 139–137–154
  • Official 1971 report mistakenly attributes gold medal in sailing Finn class won by Minski Fabris (YUG) to Greece in the events list
  • Double bronze events - 11 (boxing), 2 in gymnastics = 139+13 = 152 bronzes
  • Double bronze, no silver? - 1 in sailing = 153 bronzes, 139–1 = 138 silvers
  • Double silvers, no bronze - 1 in gymnastics = 138+1 = 139 silvers, 152 bronzes = 139–139–152
  • Events list lists 139 events total - but two are mistakenly printed twice? (women's foil in fencing (FRA–TUR–YUG) and football (YUG-TUN-TUR)), so in reality 137 events
  • Real tally 137–138–151?
  • Hand count yields 137 events = 137 golds
  • Hand count FRA = 7–9–7 (23)
  • Hand count ITA = 51–39–29 (119) vs 51–38–30 (119) = 1 silver, 1 bronze mis-attributed
  • Hand count SYR = 0–2–6 (8)
  • Hand count LBA = 0–0–0 (0) vs 0–0–1 (1) = 1 bronze unaccounted for
