Formation and Early Years, Getting By (2006-2007)

edit

The band formed at the University of Virginia when lead guitarist Andrew Chae, who was living in California at the time, cold called then stranger Tim Ouyang to start the band. After Andrew's successful visit to Charlottesville, Tim quickly recruited Luan Nguyen, whom he sang in an cappella group with, to join the band. Their first year as a 3-piece was used learning the songs Tim had written since the eight grade and brainstorming how to be a band. The band recorded their debut album, Getting By, in their apartment before having a rhythm section or playing a single show. In August 2007, Tim Be Told played their first show. In September of that year drummer Jim Barredo and bassist Parker Stanley joined the band and in October they released Getting By.
