Requested links
editYou, understandably, have requested links to verify the announcement of a future game's release. I am in the process of checking if this game has officially been announced. I happen to be friends with one who works at the company, and they have verbally verified to me. However, like I said, I'm uncertain it has been officially announced yet. Again, I am researching this to see if this is the case. If not, then I will provide all links on its announcement date. Thanks. ClintFord 14:15, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

HL2: Episode 4
editJust to repeat what I wrote in the Discussion on that article: "I read it in an interview somewhere on the net and I am just trying to find it now. I also have confirmation in the June 2006 issue of PC Gamer UK. But I'm not sure I could easily scan that in and get away with it. But please just bear with me whilst I find the confirmation." —Preceding unsigned comment added by Clockwork Apricot (talk • contribs)

Call of Duty 3
editSorry about that. The main text of the article didn't mention those consoles, so I figured it was vandalism as someone had previously tried to add consoles which there was no word of any support for. Thanks for catching that. Qutezuce 07:52, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

editThank you very much for your support on my recent RfA. I am pleased to announce that it passed with a tally of 72/11/1, and I am now an administrator. I'll be taking things slowly at first and getting used to the tools, but please let me know if there are any admin jobs I can do to help you, now or in the future. —Cuiviénen 02:24, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
RfA thanks!
editThanks for voting! Hello Thunderbrand/Archive05, and thank you so much for voting in my recent RfA. I am pleased to inform you that it passed with a final tally of (119/1/3), into the WP:100, so I have now been cleared for adminship and will soon be soaring above the clouds. I was overjoyed, shocked, and humbled by the tally, and, most importantly, all the support. Thank you. If there is ever anything you need, you know where you can find me. Take care. |
Images you tagged for deletion
editHi, just wanted to let you know about a number of the video game images you tagged for deletion. Those were all claimed under fair use and you nominated them for deletion because they were not being used in any articles. Just so you know, you can use {{subst:orfud}} to tag them for speedy deletion instead (see CSD I5) and you don't have to go through the entire IFD process that way. Regards, howcheng {chat} 00:07, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

editJarlaxle can be a very stubborn user at times, but I don't think the images is a major issue either way :) Once Episode III comes out, I'm going to be doing a complete rework of all Xenosaga pages for updates and removal of speculation and excess cruft. At that point, we can also update the images without any complaints. — Deckiller 22:27, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
Re: Episode Two edit
editYes, that was accidental - sorry about that! For some reason, my browser often likes to delete half (or more) of the text box when I edit a page. I'm usually pretty good about checking that, but it slipped past me that time. Thanks for bringing it to my attention, though, and I'll try my best to keep that from happening again. Onlynameicanget 19:11, 25 June 2006 (UTC)
Re:Ext. links
editI'd say keep Arwing Landing and maybe The StarFox Database only because it has the official SF comics. But Starwing HQ doesn't strike me as a valuable fan site, especially since it seems that fans of the site are trying really hard to keep it on the page. I guess we could use a couple more sites on the page (like the Metroid series one has), but right now I'm of the opinion that the two I mentioned above are the only ones worth keeping. If you want to start a talk page thread on it to get more input, I guess that could be useful too. Robert 20:02, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
- Metroid seems like it has too many, but I dunno, I will think about it later. Also, see my post on the List of Star Fox planets and locations talk page about Venom. Thunderbrand 05:01, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

Spoiler tags
editOn the discussion of Wikipedia:Spoiler warnings, I have to say that currently I'm actively advocating against the use of spoiler tags, paticularly their misuse and use in the encyclopedia. I suspect that the only thing that will stop this problem is a concensus by editors wikiproject by project. I've made an elaborate proposal on the talk of WP:CVG. -Randall Brackett 20:50, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
GameCube games
editThey should be included on both "GameCube games" and "GameCube only games", just like it is with the Wii. It's informative for people wanting to know what games are on the GameCube on one list and it isn't hurting anyone to have them listed there. TJ Spyke 21:33, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

Re:Star Fox 64
editYeah, I don't like the list either, but you're right, it's tough with all the different routes. I'll try to think of something, although we can always submit it to peer review now and see what suggestions others may have on that point. Robert 01:15, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
- Actually, I just finished converting it to prose. It was tough, but I tried separating each route into its own section (especially the really easy and realy hard one, since each was completely different from the other and neither crossed the other's path). Also, I'm going to add one of those mission boxes to the Mixed routes section (like the box in SF:A), but first I have to play the game again to get the title of each level (for example, Solar is "Solar: Out of the Frying Pan..." and Fortuna is "Fortuna: Enter Star Wolf"), but I don't know what the titles are for all of them yet.
- I'll do it if you think the PR won't do much, but wouldn't having a PR open at the moment lessen the chances of it passing? I would think that one of the GA editors would wonder why the article is being nominated if the PR isn't done yet, but I don't know... Should we just delete the PR request in that case? Robert 23:46, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
- Oh, I see. Well, I can also do that if you want, but after a quick look, it doesn't seem like requests are handled that quickly over there either (except with an automated script, which may not even be accurate). You want to just wait a couple of days and see if anything comes up on the CVG PR? Robert 00:08, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
Weee! Nice job, go ahead and keep adding sections to the rest of the articles in the series if you want. Actually, the one you just added for Assault was really good...do you think you can add some quotes from reviewers on the SF64 reception section? The stuff I wrote, well, didn't really talk about reception per se as much as it did the number of copies sold. Robert 00:38, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

Range block
editWhen you blocked High Horse today I got affected. I keep getting a block message claiming I have a Google ISP located in Mountain View California, IP 64.233.173.67, which has nothing to do with me, I live in Honduras though I know my IP address is unstable as sometimes automated systems identify me as being in the US (skype etc) though I just checked and it isnt remotely close to the ip address I gave you. While I can clear the block by reloading the page once or sometimes twice it is annoying and I feel duty bound to let you know whether or not you care to or can do anything about it, SqueakBox 03:55, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
I'm registered, but blocked by my IP... what to do?
editDan,
A user named "high horse" appears to have vandalized Wikipedia using a dynamically assigned IP address that, for some reason, I've been assigned repeatedly (I'm on Sprint DSL in Charlottesville, VA). I thought that, because I'm registered, I wouldn't get blocked if somebody on my ISP's subnet engages in evil, wicked behavior...? But even if I'm logged in, I'm blocked. Could you please suggest what I can do to restore my editing capability? (I honestly do think I've made a positive contribution to Wikipedia!) Many thanks, Bryan 11:18, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

I've tagged this article which you had written with referencing and notability concerns with the mind to AFD it. You might want to take a look at it, the main points put forward by an AFD would be failure of WP:V and WP:WEB. - Hahnchen 03:47, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
- I don't really mind if it is sent to AfD. I can see that the comic is really not that notable for a Wikipedia article. Thunderbrand 04:04, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
I noticed an original Half-Life 2 boxart image you scanned has an {{Orphaned fairuse not replaced}} tag added three days ago. Since the tag justifies that the image isn't link to an article, and the image is a tad bit too large as a fair use image, it seems reasonable to leave the image for deletion. The smaller version is perfect in both size and detail. What says you? ╫ 25 ◀RingADing▶ 12:16, 28 August 2006 (UTC) ╫

Way back at Archive 8 at WP:CVG, you mentioned you had access to copies of Electronic Gaming Monthly. There's now a CVG Magazine library archive kicked off by User:Zeality. The idea is that if you have access to magazines which you're willing to pull quotes off or scan, then you list them on Wikipedia:WikiProject Computer and video games/Magazines. You don't have to index them all, just providing the issue numbers you have would be helpful. I'm personally indexing a few copies of PC Zone every day, although not to the extent and detail of some others. - Hahnchen 22:06, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Edge - Star Fox Adventures review quotes
editThunderbrand, as requested sections of the Star Fox Adventures review from Edge. If it's one of your all time favourite games you may want to stop reading after the graphics paragraph. :-(
<ref name="Edge Review"> {{cite news |first = |last = |author = |coauthors = |url = |title = [[Edge (magazine)|Edge]] |work = |publisher = [[Future Publishing]] |pages = |page = 90 |date = December 2002 |accessdate = |language = English }} </ref>
Graphics
There's no doubt that Starfox Adventures is one of the most beautiful worlds yet realised on GameCube, and the visual splendor is immense. Later sights prove just as glamourous as the opening stages; Ocean Force Point temple, for example, with it's rippling columns of suspended water and cylindrical tunnels embroidered with a tapestry of pretty detail, is truley captivating.
Adventure
Star Fox Adventures, it would seem, houses logic that should be as extinct as the creatures that roam its surface. Little is proffered in terms of exploration, or challenge. Everything is prompted, whether with button presses, instructions from team-mates or context sensitive pads. Puzzles enter the realm of single-solution hyper linearity, and regularly touch on the remedial: Fox McCloud encounters an obstacle, and finds the means to overcome it within easy, nearby reach. Fox McCloud saves the world. It's a mini adventure.
Camera
(comparing bad parts of the game with good) ... such as the excellent camera and controll system. The view isn't operated with the C-Stick ...(piece about inventory system) ... but the left trigger, which positions the camera behind you. Despite this lack of tangibility, camera problems are generally absent, except during boss battles where it becomes utterly disfunctional.
Combat
So it's a shame that the combat is such a spartan and repetitive experience. There's an ultra-polite lock-on that's invoked automatically whenever your weapon is drawn. You can only fight one assailant at a time, and there's no way to actively switch between them. It's a moot point, however, as only the targeted enemy will attack. The others wait patiently in line like gentlemen, making confrontations seem reserved, turn-based and limited to pointlessly flamboyant button-basher combos. It's almost as typically British as the wide range of UK accents in the voice acting.

GCOTW promotion
editThe article you just promoted to GCOTW, List of computer and video games considered the most difficult, is not really an article which had widespread support. In fact, numerous editors voiced opposition to this nomination. Given the concerns we've had over a previous GCOTW from Jimbo, should we really be promoting this article? jaco♫plane 00:24, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah I think that would be a better idea. I think it's clear from the nomination that there was not widespread support. I think it's clear that consensus was not to work on that article so in my opinion it's best to use the only other nominee, even though that one didn't have much support either. jaco♫plane 00:36, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
