BEFORE SLEEP is an American Post-Metal band from Northern California, formed in 2014. Based out of San Francisco, the group began as a three-piece with singer Kyle Cambra, guitarist Brandon Pasierb and drummer Miguel Peña. In 2015, BEFORE SLEEP recruited two more members - guitarist David Pascale and bassist Percy Padilla. The band began playing shows in 2016 and began recording their debut EP, STEMS, released in January 2017.^[1]

History

Formation (2014–2016)

BEFORE SLEEP formed in 2014 in the Bay Area, CA with singer Kyle Cambra, guitarist Brandon Pasierb and drummer Miguel Peña. Finding similar interests in music, the three began collaborating together around 2005 during their early years of high school. They spent the next few years in and out of various music projects, both solo and collaborations with another, including the Psych-Metal fusion band, Survive the Fall; which eventually became BEFORE SLEEP.

In 2015, guitarist David Pascale - a long time friend of the three - and bassist Percy Padilla joined the band. Although shortly after recording their debut EP STEMS, Pascale departed in 2016 to pursue other endeavors.^[1] The quartet started playing their first shows around the Bay Area, CA in July 2016.

STEMS (2016–present)

The band began recording the STEMS EP themselves in February 2016, mainly in their practice studio located in San Francisco, CA. By September 2016, the tracks were sent to Jordan Sobolew at Cool Room Studio for mixing, then to Jerod McBrayer for mastering in December. A demo version of "Blue Eyes, Blue Sky" was released on the band's website and SoundCloud as a teaser for the EP in November 2016.

The cover art features photographer Luke Fedorko's visually enticing portrait of model Sarah Hudson, which the band has deemed "Red Girl". Another of Fedorko's photos of Hudson can be faintly seen on the back cover of STEMS as well.^[2]

STEMS is due for release on January 31st, 2017 as a digital download via bandcamp.com, and a limited number of physical CD copies are available at BEFORE SLEEP's live shows. The band is rumored to be currently recording their untitled second EP.
